Lately the Home Office has appointed a Chief Inspector, £1000; 13 Inspectors, £600 to £800; 12 Assistants, £300. to £400.

INDIA OFFICE.

The appointments in this office are now made after an Open Competition; some of them, for instance, Clerks in the Accountant-General's Branch, coming under Scheme I.: and others, for instance, the Book-keepers are appointed after an Open Competition under Scheme II. The salaries of the Book-keepers commence at £80 per annum. Even those who have passed the Examination under Scheme I. must qualify in Book-keeping afterwards.
