its contents; and those who were acquainted with Miss Tatham only by the holy effusions of her poetical genius, have evinced especial interest in its details.

Many of the readers of "Etchings and Pearls" have solicited that to the present edition should be prefixed some account of Miss Tatham's previous history. The brief memoir furnished by Mr. Tatham, and which is now inserted in the volume of his gifted daughter's Poems, contains some interesting particulars of her early life. But, as the authoress, from her first introduction to her young friend, eagerly listened to and fondly treasured in her mind every incident-even the most trivialwhich she could learn respecting her, she readily complies with the above request, by giving a detail of all she can remember.

This appendage, together with the addition of a few more "Pearls," and a careful revision of the whole volume, will, she humbly trusts, procure for the present edition the same kind and favorable reception that was accorded, both by the press and the public, to its predecessor. M. A. W.
