Preface to the Second Edition.

THE former edition of this work was written, as stated in the Preliminary Remarks, especially for and at the earnest request of many persons in Redbourne and its vicinity; who only became acquainted with the subject of this memorial during the period she sojourned among them, which was but a few weeks previous to her death.

It has been exceedingly gratifying to the authoress, that her humble "labour of love" should have met with so kind a reception from the general public; and that, from the interest it excited, the first edition should have been exhausted in a few weeks.

Many, to whom the name of Emma Tatham was unknown previously to the perusal of this work, have tendered thanks for an introduction to one so deservedly loved and admired. Personal friends of the dear departed have also borne testimony to the gratification afforded by
