Do not abhor us, for thy name's sake: do not disgrace the throne of thy glory.-Jer. xiv. 21.

The place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel for ever.-Ezek. xliii. 7.

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion, &c. behold thy king cometh unto thee, he is just, &c.-Zech. ix. 9.

Upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.-Matt. xvi. 18.

Be not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? &c. Ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them, and I will be their God, &c. wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, &c. and I will receive you.-2 Cor. vi. 14-18.

God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints; and to be

had in reverence of all them that are about him.-Ps. lxxxix. 7.

Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.-Matt. xviii. 20.

Christ said, The Scribes and Pharisees, &c. love the chief seats in the synagogues, &c. but he that is greatest among you shall be your servant, &c.-Matt. xxiii. 6. 11, 12. 17.

These all continued, with one accord, in prayer and supplication, &c. Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, &c. the number of the names together were about one hundred and twenty, &c.—Acts i. 13-15.

Let us consider one another, to provoke unto love and to good works : not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is: but exhorting one another. -Heb. x. 24, 25.

My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons: for if there come unto your assembly (or synagogue) a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel; and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment, and ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place and : say to poor man, Stand thou there; or, Sit under my footstool; are you not then partial? &c. Hath not God chosen the poor of this world, rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom? &c. If ye fulfil the royal law, according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: but if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin.James ii. 1-10.

SEVENTHLY. Of miraculous Gifts:

Of Prayer, Prophesying, Psalms, Tongues, &c. and how they did use them in the Church-Assemblies, and elsewhere; for the Edification of one another, and Instruction of others: the order how they should be used, directed; such Gifts to be desired for this end.

Eldad and Medad prophesied in the camp and there ran a young man, and told Moses; and Joshua, &c. said, My lord Moses, forbid them:

and Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? Would God that all the Lord's people were prophets, and that the Lord would put his Spirit upon them!-Numb. xi. 26–29. Mark xi. 27, 28.

Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the congregation, and spread forth his hands toward heaven; and he said, Lord God of Israel, &c.-1 Kings viii. 22, &c.

Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation, &c. in the house of the Lord, before the new court, and said, O Lord God of our fathers, are not thou God in heaven? &c.-2 Chron. xx. 4, &c.

Then they that feared the Lord, spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, &c. They shall be mine, saith the Lord of hosts, &c. Mal. iii. 16, 17.

John said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us, and we forbad him: but Jesus said, Forbid him not; for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me: for he that is not against us, is on our part.-Mark ix. 38-40. Luke ix. 50.

The Jews used to have such to speak in their synagogues, who were either priests, or other officers, as appears in these instances.-Luke iv. 16-22. Acts xiii. 14—19. xvii. 1-3.

There was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem: and they were all scattered abroad, &c. except the apostles, &c. therefore they that were scattered abroad, went every where preaching the word.-Acts viii. 1. 4.

Now they which were scattered, &c. when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus; and the hand of the Lord was with them and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.-Acts xi. 19-21.

Apollos, &c. an eloquent man, and · mighty in the scriptures, &c. he spake

and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John, &c. whom when Aquila and Priscilla had taught the way of God more perfectly, he did mightily convince the Jews, and that publickly; shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.-Acts xviii. 24-29.

Think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: so we, being many, are one body, &c. Having then gifts differing, according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith, &c. Or he that teacheth, on teaching or he that exhorteth, on exhortation, &c. he that ruleth, with diligence.-Rom. xii. 3—9.


I myself am also persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.— Rom. xv. 14.

I thank my God, &c. that in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge.— 1 Cor. i. 4, 5.

Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit, &c. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom, to another the word of knowledge, &c. to another faith, &c. to another prophecy, &c. But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally, as he will, &c. If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body, &c. God hath set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him, &c. Are all apostles? &c. Have all the gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? &c. But covet earnestly the best gifts.-1 Cor. xii. 4. 7-11. 15. 18. 28-31.

Desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy, &c. He that
