Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word? &c. I will meditate in thy precepts, &c. Princes also did sit and speak against me, but thy servant did meditate in thy statutes, &c. I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies, &c. I remembered thy judgments of old, O Lord, and have comforted myself, &c. I have remembered thy name, O Lord, in the night, &c. I will consider thy testimonies, &c. Thy commandment is exceeding broad, &c. Thy law is my meditation all the day thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies; for they are ever with me: I have more understanding than my teachers, for thy testimonies are my meditation, &c. Mine eyes prevent the night watches, that I might meditate in thy word.-Ps. cxix. 9. 15. 23. 48. 52. 55. 59. 78. 95-99. 148.
How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!-Ps. cxxxix. 17, 18.
I remember the days of old, I me ditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thine hands, &c. my soul thirsteth after thee, &c.-Ps. cxliii. 5,6.
Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established (or all thy ways shall be ordered aright). -Prov. iv. 26. Eccles. ii. 14.
Go to the ant, thou sluggard, consider her ways, and be wise.-Prov. vi. 6.
The simple believeth every word, but the prudent man looketh well to his going.-Prov. xiv. 15.
The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.-Prov. xv. 28.
The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth (or maketh his mouth), &c.— Prov. xvi. 23.
When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is be fore thee, and put a knife to thy throat, &c.-Prov. xxiii. 1, 2.
Keep thy foot, when thou goest to the house of God: and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools; for they consider not that they do evil: be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God; for God is in heaven.Eccles. v. 1, 2.
A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, he directeth (or considereth) his way. Prov. xxi. 29.
The disciples (for want of consideration) said, To what purpose is this waste? for this ointment might have been sold for much, &c. Jesus said, Why trouble ye the woman, for she hath wrought a good work upon me.-Matt. xxvi. 7-11.
Why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?-Matt. vii, 3.
The wind ceased, and they were sore amazed, &c. and wondered; for they considered not the miracle of the loaves, for their heart was hardened.

OF THE THOUGHTS, MIND AND AFFEC
AN heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, God hateth.-Prov. vi. 16. 18.
And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Gen. vi. 5. viii. 21.
If they shall bethink themselves (or bring back their heart) in the land whither they were carried captives, and repent, &c.-1 Kings viii. 47. Deut. xxx. 1, 2.
The Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts, &c.-1 Chron. xxviii. 9.
I have made a covenant with my eyes, why then should I think upon a maid?-Job xxxi. 1.
The wicked, &c. will not seek after God. God is not in all his thoughts (or all his thoughts are, there is no God).-Ps. x. 4.
We have thought of thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple.-Ps. xlviii. 9. cxxxix. 17.
Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places, &c.-Ps. xlix. 11,
Thou thoughtest that I was altogether such a one as thyself, &c. Ps. 1. 21.
and mine uprising, thou understand- from wickedness, that thou mayest est my thought afar off, &c. Search be saved: how long shall thy vain me, O God, and know my heart; try thoughts lodge within thee?-Jer.iv. 14. me, and know my thoughts. Ps. cxxxix. 2. 23.
Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the Lord our God that giveth rain.-Jer. v. 24.
Behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts. Jer. vi. 19.
Thus saith the Lord, &c. I know the things that come into your mind, every one of them.-Ezek. xi. 5.
His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.-Ps. cxlvi. 4.
The thoughts of the righteous are right, but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.-Prov. xii. 5.
The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord.-Prov. xv. 26.
Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established. -Prov. xvi. 3.
They became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.-Rom. i. 21.
They that are after the flesh, do mind the things of the flesh, &c. to be carnally minded is death, &c. because the carnal mind is enmity against God.-Rom. viii. 5-7.
The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.-1 Cor. iii. 20.
Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? behold my hands.-Luke xxiv. 38, 39.
Thy money perish with thee; because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money, &c. pray God, if perhaps the thought
of thine heart may be forgiven thee. OF REPENTANCE IN GENERAL: IN WHAT --Acts viii. 20. 22.
SENSE GOD CANNOT REPENT; AND
Let him that thinketh he standeth, take heed lest he fall.-1 Cor. x. 12. Charity, &c. thinketh no evil. 1 Cor. xiii. 5.
Casting down imaginations (or reasonings), &c. and bringing into captivity every thought.-2 Cor. x. 5.
If a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.-Gal. vi. 3.
Many walk, &c. whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame; who mind earthly things.-Phil. iii. 18, 19.
Whatsoever things are true, &c. if there be any praise, think on these things.-Phil. iv. 8.
Set your affection (or mind) on things above, and not on things on the earth. Col. iii. 2.
The word of God is quick, &c. a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart, &c. all things are naked, and open unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.-Heb. iv. 12, 13.
Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?-James ii. 4.
Wherefore, I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, &c. to stir you up by putting you in remembrance, &c. I will endeavour that ye may be able, after my decease, to have these things always in remembrance.-2 Pet. i. 12, 13. 15. iii. 1, 2. Jude 4, 5.
SECT. 1. In what sense God cannot repent; and how he is said to repent. · AND God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.-Gen. vi. 5, 6.
Moses prayed, and said, &c. Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people, &c. and the Lord repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.Exod. xxxii. 11, 12. 14.
Ye shall bear your iniquities, even forty years; and ye shall know my breach of promise (or altering of my purpose). Numb. xiv. 34.
God is not a man, that he should lie, neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?—Numb. xxiii. 19. 1 Sam. xv. 29. Heb. vi. 18. Titus i. 2.
