Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven; where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.-Matt. vi. 20.

Many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, &c. in the kingdom of heaven.-Matt. viii. 11. Luke xvi. 22. 25.

Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun, in the kingdom of their Father.-Matt. xiii. 43.

Jesus was transfigured before them; and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.— Matt. xvii. 2, 3.

Blessed are the pure in heart; for they shall see God.-Matt. v. 8.

Heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together: for I reckon that the sufferings of this present time, are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God, &c. We ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body, &c. Whom he justified, them he also glorified.-Rom. viii. 17-19. 23. 30. Heb. i. 14. ii. 10.

As we have borne the image of the earthly, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly, &c. The dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption: and this mortal must put on immortality, &c.-1 Cor. xv. 49. 52-56. 2 Cor. v. 4.

Our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, &c. The things which are not seen, are eternal.-2 Cor. iv. 17, 18. Matt. v. 11, 12.

We have a building of God; an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.-2 Cor. v. 1.

Jesus Christ, who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body.-Phil. iii. 20, 21.

They do it to obtain a corruptible crown but we, an incorruptible.1 Cor. ix. 25.

We know in part, and we prophesy in part but when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away, &c. Now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face now I know in part; but then shall I know, even as also I am known.-1 Cor. xiii. 9, 10. 12.

For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven.-Col. i. 5.

When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.-Col. iii. 4.

Then we which are alive and remain, shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air; and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.1 Thess. iv. 17, 18.

To you who are troubled, rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed, &c. when he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe.

2 Thess. i. 7. 10.

He called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of the the Lord Jesus Christ.-2 Thess. ii. 14.

That they may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.-2 Tim. ii. 10.

There is laid up for me a crown of righteousness; which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. -2 Tim. iv. 8.

Ye took joyfully the spoiling of your goods; knowing in yourselves, that ye have in heaven a better, and an enduring substance: cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward.-Heb. x. 34, 35. Prov. viii. 21.

Abraham looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God, &c. They desire a better country, that is, an heavenly wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; for he hath prepared for them a city, &c. Others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection.-Heb. xi. 10. 16. 35. xiii. 14.

He that doeth the will of God, abideth for ever.-1 John ii. 17.

We know that when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.-1 John iii. 2.

They shall walk with me in white, &c. clothed in white raiment, &c. will I make a pillar in the temple of my God: and he shall go no more out, &c. will I grant to sit with me, in my throne; even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father.-Rev. iii. 4, 5. 12. 21. ii. 26-28.

I beheld, and lo, a great multitude, &c. stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands, &c. These are they which came out of great tribulation; and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb; therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them. They shall hunger no more, nor thirst no more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat; for the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne, shall feed them, &c. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. -Rev. vii. 9. 13-18. Isa. xxv. 8.

The souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and which had not worshipped the beast, &c. nor received his mark upon their foreheads.-Rev. xx. 4.

CHAP. XXXVI.

OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

IN DIVINE THINGS, AND THE WANT THEREOF IGNORANCE ABOUT SUCH THINGS, AND THE EVIL THEREOF. WHEN Abimelech had taken Sarah, Abraham's wife, though in the integrity of his heart, not knowing her to be Abraham's wife, because he had said, she was his sister: yet God said unto him, Behold thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man's wife.-Gen. xx. 2—10.

Pharaoh said, Who is the Lord, that I should obey him?-Exod. v. 2.

And the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I stretch forth my hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them.-Exod. vii. 5. Ezek. vi. 7. 10. 13. Exod. xiv. 4. 8.

after them, which knew not the Lord, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.-Judges ii. 10.

Samson said unto his father, Get her for me, for she pleaseth me well: but his father and his mother knew not that it was of the Lord, that he sought an occasion against the Philistines.-Judges xiv. 3, 4.

Elijah prays that God will (by an extraordinary means) let it be known this day, that thou art God in. Israel, &c. That this people may know that thou art the Lord God.-1 Kings xviii. 36-38.

Because the Syrians have said, The Lord is God of the hills, but he is not God of the valleys: therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I am the Lord.-1 Kings xx. 28.

Solomon asked wisdom and knowledge, and God gave it; and riches also.-2 Chron. i. 9—12.

Nevertheless, they shall be his servants: that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.-2 Chron. xii. 8.

God left Hezekiah, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.-2 Chron. xxxii. 31.

Canst thou by searching find out God? Canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection? &c.-Job xi. 7, 8. 12. xxxvii. 5. Eccles. xi. 5.

I have understanding as well as you I am not inferior to you.Job xii. 3. xiii. 2.

Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him! Job xxvi. 14.

There is a spirit in man, and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth him understanding: great men are not always wise, neither do the aged understand judgment.-Job xxxii. 8,

I uttered that I understood not, things too wonderful for me, which I knew not I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear, but now mine eye seeth thee: wherefore I abhor myself, &c.-Job xlii. 3. 5, 6.

They that know thy name will put their trust in thee, &c. The Lord is known by the judgment which he executeth.-Ps. ix. 10. 16.

Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge, who eat up my people? &c. Ps. xiv. 4. liii. 4.

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament sheweth his handy work day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge, &c. The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple, &c. The commandments of the Lord are pure, enlightening the eyes. Ps. xix. 1-4. 7, 8.

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen. -Ps. xlvi. 10.

Consume them, that they may not be; and let them know that God ruleth in Jacob, unto the ends of the earth. Selah.-Ps. lix. 13. xcix. 8.

When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me, until I went into the sanctuary of God: then understood I their end, &c. So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.-Ps. lxxiii. 16, 17. 22.

Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee.-Ps. lxxix. 6.

They know not, neither will they understand they walk on in darkness. Ps. lxxxii. 5.

people: and ye fools, when will ye be wise? He that planteth the ear, shall he not hear?-Ps. xciv. 7—11. It is a people that do err in their hearts, and they have not known my ways.-Ps. xcv. 10.

Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even he shall understand the loving kindness of the Lord.→ Ps. cvii. 43.

For I know that the Lord is great; and that our Lord is above all gods.→→→ Ps cxxxv. 5.

Cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.-Ps. cxliii. 8. cxlvi. 8.

Let them be confounded, &c. that men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the Most High over all the earth.-Ps. lxxxiii. 17, 18. Understand, ye brutish among the

A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of under standing shall attain unto wise counsels, &c. How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? &c. and fools hate knowledge? &c. They shall call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: for that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord.-Prov. i. 5. 22. 28, 29.

Apply thine heart to understanding: yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding: if thou seek her as silver, &c. Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God; for the Lord giveth wisdom, &c. understanding shall keep thee. Prov. ii. 2-6. 10, 11. iv. 7.

Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding for the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver.-Prov. iii. 13, 14. viii. 5, 6. 11. xvi. 16. Job xxviii. 12. 15, &c.
