dicate a strong prefumption, though not in name; yet are they really, and fubftantially, brethren, of this our new philofophy of this our enlightened age and northern hemifphere, and, as fellow-members, your eminence will vouchfafe them refuge, as the hen, under your wing, or, fuppofe, into your fatherly bofom.

Luther. But then, and fuppofe, and the like of that, as the faying is, do ye mungey. I will open my mouth in thunder, and put to difmay all gain fayers, arraign the culprit Ganganelli,' Sir, the charges you ftand indicted are of a twofold complexion, one or the like of that popish Pope; the other, do ye mungey forfooth, is against the new pigs of the age; your doom I pronounce, look ye hither.

On your back you shall lay
For ever, and for aye,
Alas, a well a day.

Poor Gaffer, he is dead,

The Red Sea is your bed,

Clay cold and chill'd as lead.
Waft him thence, fiends of night.
Club. Bring bottle and glass,
The fentence is past,

Old Peter's no more.

Sweet liberty, Sweet liberty,

Great Luther's philofophy.

Cuckolds all of a row, ha, ha, ba.

Tol de rol, Cuckolds of a row.

Luther. Bring hither the jefuitical delinquents, hold up your hand at the tremendous

bar of my juftice, and receive as a lenient fentence, what I fhall pronounce, nincompoops. Your crimes are of a fourfold nature. First, Your binding your necks to the papal chair; fecond, Your strictly copying and adhering to the fpirit of Ignatius, who often declared, tho' the unbodying the fociety would be the fharpeft dagger to his foul, yet it would be but half an hour. Third, The love of heaven to gain, which you not only in general but in particular contemn every temporal enjoyment, and did not even kick against the papal chair, when the bandage of the brotherhood was unloofed, but accepted your pensions, tho' small, and banishment from the place of your birth with ferenity and refignation to the fentence. Fourth, Your deferting and leaving the finall number of zealots to withstand and charge the whole catholic power, when you ought tooth and nail to have joined the vigorous and warlike part of your body. Suppofe fifty thousand strong call in a million of us proteftants, and as many twice doubled from both Indies, or the like of that, do ye mungey, for these and your faults, which are too numerous to recount, your fentence is, You fhall be depofited in the heart of the earth, placed in fuch fort that all and every of you fhall fix his right great toe in his left ear, for evermore, or the like of that, do ye mungey; take these culprits to their deftination, dark fiends of night, do ye mungey, or the like of that. Now ye are freed from these malapert gentry, enemies to the good things and pleafures which delight and tickle our fancies, or

the like of that. I fay, Peter's chair is vacant, I fay, do ye mungey, that Peter's chair is empty, and and it is my will that ye immediately qualify yourfelves into a Conclave of Cardinals, as the faying is, or the like of that, do ye mungey, and enthrone the man you intend to honour, Pope, or the like of that, as the faying is, do ye mungey. What think ye, my lords, do ye mungey, what fay you to my most high mightiness, or the like of that? I claim it by birthright, as first and only Cardinal of the proteftant republic, grand Link and Centre of the two mighty Reformations of these last times, as the faying is, or the like of that, do ye mungey. Speak out, nincompoops, or the like of that, touching the zealots of the late fociety that demurred against the papa of the papifts, initiate them, champions of Christendom, into the rites of the new philofophers of this our enlightened age and northern hemisphere, so be it, where dark fentences will be diffolved and laid open to future generations, or the like of that, do ye mungey.

Club. Most gracious Sovereign, Lord of Lords, and King of Kings, Grand Link, Centre of unity, which clafp the great Ball of the world and bring all the tribes of the earth into one bond of love, liberty and union, Holy Father, for thus thou art, who haft vouchsafed us, your dutiful and lawful fubjects, fo eminent, lofty, and exalted honours, in fingling and placing us perfpicuous to the eyes and astonishment of the whole world, on whofe vaft extenfive Ball, now fubject to your Empyreal Sceptre.

You

You have deigned to place and make experi mentally known, not philofophers and mathematicians, in this tremendous and bright phenomenon, particularly made known, but the moft illiterate and ignorant old women, and even children, have now the comfort, according to that immortal champion's divinity, for fubjecting and bringing infallibility under the knowledge of the five fenfes, that is, infinity, your great ancestor, Doctor Tillotson, one of our procurators, who, by preparing and fweetening the lineaments or outlines of our philofophy of this our enlightened age and northern hemisphere, in reducing infinity to finite, which is the firm or ground on which our fabric is built. By this golden rule, we are not pinned down, as the papifts, to believe there is a God, unless we first prove his Godfhip by our five fenses; that is, we must tafte, feel, fee, hear, and smell him, our five fenfes perfectly, uniformly, and fubftantially agreeing, which is the criterion or quality of our new philofophy of this our enlightened age and northern hemifphere, which you, great defcendant and crown of fo eminent an anceftor, now fubftantiate, by this moft fimple and substantial evidence of the aforefaid philofophical, mathematical and infallible criterion, we mean the grand phenomenon which your great wifdom has condefcended to vouchfafe us the happy proof, thể Cancerated, Spider Crab. Holy father, we are now qualified and beg your feal by laying your hand on the head of each of us and bleffing with the kifs of peace. Your facred pontifical

robes, &c. are in great forwardness, being ordered fome time before, and will be here directly.

Luther. Come hither, that I may blefs you. My hand and peace confecrate, confirm, feal, and ordain you all and feverally Cardinals of my two-fold Proteftant Empires, or the like of that, as the faying is, do ye mungey.

Mofes. As a Chriftian, I will not fay Bishop, Cardinal, or Pope, but in the fhoes of a fimple Chriftian, what decifion will you pafs on your noble relation, Doctor Tillotson, as yourself in a former, and the Club in the prefent Conference, have decyphered him.

Luther. You charged me, in a former Conference, of wearing a mafk, or two faces, when occafion offered; but as I never could keep a fecret, it would be unbecoming, in me, to attempt it. I gave you my thoughts, with thofe of my family, concerning our relation, that what was praife-worthy in him, which was his money, and exceeding great prudence, as birdlime, catched every bargain, but would part with nothing, making this a ftanding rule, that charity fhould be no Gadder, but a true domeftic. The only thing I can with decency repeat was his pen, wherever his malice pointed, which had no refpect for truth, but made every oppofite bend to his will. This was the caufe of his lofing one of the best of fervants, who was his penfiman, and most useful on all occafions. On fome particular fubject in his war. against popery, he ordered this man to write what he thought useful to gain his point, refe
