Charles Forman, Efq; Anthor of feveral Letters upon Politicks, publish'd in the D. Post. At Boston in New England, Wintworth Paxton, Efq; aged 75, an old Commander of feveral Ships in the Royal Navy. He was in many princpal Engagements, in which he always behav'd well, and was one of the commanding Lieutenants that went up La Hogue Harbour and fet Fire to the French Fleet there. On Wednesday. aged 100, Mr. Smith, an eminent Apothecary in Aldermanbury. On Monday at her Houfe in Deptford, Mrs Elizabeth Crouch.

rier arriv'd here from
Mr. Keene, the King's
Minifter Plenipoten-
tiary at the Court of
Madrid, and it is faid
the Dfpatches he
brought give fome Profpeft that the
Conferences will not begin there fo
foon as we flatter'd ourselves they
would. It is pretended that the Court
of Madrid requires the South Sea Com
pany to pay her the 68cool. Sterling
fo often mentioned, and Great Britain
to abandon Georgia, before the Con
ferences are opened. We are affured
that new Inftructions have been fent
to the King's Plenipotentiaries at Ma
drid on that Head, with Orders to
propofe to the Spanish Court to defift
from her Pretenfions to Georgia, and
that Endeavours will be used to fatisfy
the King of Spain in Regard to the
other Paint. However it be, Don
Thomas Geraldino, his Catholick Ma
jefty's Minifter Plenipotentiary, having
likewife receiv'd a Courier from his
Court, three Hours after the Arrival of
the other difpatch'd by Mr Keene, his
Excellency went immediately to St.
James's in order to communicate to
the King the Difpatches he had juft
receiv'd; but his Majesty fent him
Word, That he knew the Contents of
them already,

Regiment of Foot was drawn up be
fore the Parliament Houfe, and about
feven the Battle-Axes attended, and
in'd the Avenues to the Houfe. Re-
tween feven and eight the Lord Santry,
accompanied by Sir Compton Dem-
ville, and the two Sheriffs, went to
the Parliament House, (the Ax being
carried by Mr. Smith, Keeper of New-
gate) At ten the Right Hon the
Lord Chancellor, Lord High Steward,
attended by the Judges, went in State
from his Houfe at St. Stephen's G een
to the Parliament Houfe; when his
Grace alighted, he was preceded to
the House of Lords by fix Gentle.
men Ufhers, the King at Arms, and
the Gentleman Ufher of the Black Rod,
and receiv'd the Conspliments of the
Lords; from thence he went in Pro-
ceffion to the Houfe of Commons,
the Place appointed for the Trial, which
began about eleven o'clock, and con-
tinued till about fix in the Evening,
when the Lords, 23 in Number, una-
nimously brought in their Verd &
Guity, after which Sentence was given
that his Lordship fhould be execured
on the 23d of June next. After Sen-
rence was pronounced his Lordship
was ordered into clafe Confinement,
and accordingly was guarded by a Com
pany of Soldiers to Newgate.

A great Number of Lords have
waited on the Lords fuftices at the Ca-
ftle, with a Reprefentation in Favour
of his Lordship, to be transmitted-to
Dublin, May Friday the 27th England, to his Grace the Duke of

Devonshire, the Lord Lieutenant, in Order to be laid before the King: And 'tis faid that the Lady Dowager of Santry, and feveral Noblemen and Gentlemen, particularly the Earl of Meath, the Lords Howth, and Caftle Dorough, and Sir William Domville, Bait, are going to folicit his Majefty's Pardon for the faid Lord, he being very young, and the last of the Family, and having behav'd with the greatest D. cency and Refignation fince he received his Sentence.

HOME AFFAIR S. Brifio', May 5. Yesterday about Eleven o'clock, Mr. John Kimmarly, and John Philips, the two Perfons who rece v'd Sentence of Death at the late General Jail Delivery for this City and County, were convey'd by a Guard of Conftables from Newgate, in a Mourning Coach and Four, attended by a Rev. Divine to the ufual P ace of Exe, cntion on St. Michael's Hill. -From the Tinre Mr. Kimmarly enter'd upon the Cart till his Execution was finifh'd, was about an Hour and an Half; and though the Rope broke three fundry Times, and his Neck much hurted by the Ropes, as alfo bruifed by his Falls, fo that his Sirt was ftained with his Blood. yet, during all the Time, he behav'd with great Chriftian Courage; but employ'd each Interval, while other Ropes were providing, in folemn Addiefes to Heaven; forgiving and begging Forgiveness of all Men. The fourth Time he got upon the Cart, he again addrefs'd himself to the People, and confefs'd the killing of Mr. James Burgefs; but that he had no Defign foto do, nor any Malice towards him; though he attributed his Misfortune to the common Confequence of keeping bad Company; which he hop'd all Men would be wain'd against.

LO NDON. On Tuesday the State Coach of the Hon. Arthur Onflow, Efq; Speaker to the Hon. Houle of Cominons, broke down in New Palace Qurd going to

the Houfe, but the Speaker who was in it received no Damage.

Several fine Ladies who used to wear French Silks, French Hoops of four Yards wide, Tete de Mouton Heads, (or Bob Wigs) and white Sattin Smock Petticoats, &c. are turn'd Methodists, and Followers of Mr. Whitefield, whofe Doctrine of the New Birth has fo prevailed over them, that they now wear Stuff Gowns, no Hoops, common Night Mobs, and plain Bays for Jenny's.

On Tuesday John Hanna, Captain Longdon's Boy, was tried at Guildhall for Perjury, and acquitted. It was moy'd by Counfel that the Trial might be put off, but the Court were of Opinion that he had fuffer'd fufficiently by fo long an Imprisonment.

At the fame Time one Devenish, alias Devonshire, was tried for an Attempt to comit the deteftable Sin of Sodomy, which being clearly prov'd by four Evidences, he was fentenc'd to fuffer fix Months Imprifonment, and ftand in the Pillory at the Royal Exchange.

On Tuesday Night laft Mr. Wadcock, Carrier of Sheer near Guildford in Surry, mounted on a blind Horfe, unhappily mistaking his Way, fell into a

Chalk Pit near 50 Foot deep by Afhftead in the fame County, whereby his Horfe was killed on the Spot, he bad one of his Thighs and three of his Ribs broke, and was otherwife bruis'd in a moft miferable Manner. He was not found till Thursday, and was then taken up alive, but died in a Quarter of an Hour afterwards.

The Right Hon. the Lord Baltimore, Gentleman of the Bedchamber to his Royal Highnefs the Prince of Wales, is preparing to vifit the Colony of Maryland, of which he is Lord Proprietor. We hear, that his Lordship defigns to go to the Court of Ruffia before he returns to England, and will be accompanied by Mr. King, a noted Mathematician, and others.

Saturday Night laft the Prince and Princefs of Wales diverted themselves on the River Thames up to Richmond in his Royal Highness's Barge, attended by feveral Perfons of Quality, and a Barge with a Band of Mulick. His Majesty's Ship the Romney, commanded by Capt. Osborn, is ordered to fail for her Station at Newfoundland.

The Duke, a 90 Gun Ship, late launch'd at Woolwich, is order'd to be rigg'd forthwith, and 'tis thought will carry the next Flag that is commillion'd. Yesterday a Child of two Years old, belonging to Mr. Merington, of Dock. Head, going in a Coach with her Mother the Door of which, in Horflydown Fair-treet, opened, by which Accident, the Child fell out and was kili'd on the Spor, by the Wheels of the Coach running over her Head.

On Monday the 7th Iaft. John Glibury, Waterman, was convicted by the Rulers of the Waterman's Company, before Sir John Lade, Bart. for carrying by Water in his Wherry, on Sunday laft, above the Number of eight Paffengers, contrary to the Statute; and be not having fufficient to pay the Penalty, was committed to the Houfe of Correction for 14 Days.

They write from Aylesbury, that the three following Malefactors, condemn'd at the last Affizes for the County of Bucks, were executed there on Saturday, viz. John Trafley, for a Robbery on the Highway; John Hewes, for Felony and Burglary; and Robart Owen, for Horfe-Healing. 'Tis faid they would all have been pardon'd for Tranfportation, had they not attempt ed an Efcape, which they had very near effected.

Wednesday Morning, about Two o'Clock, feven Waggons coming from Bedford and Hertfordshire to London, were robb'd near the Brick Kilns between Highgate aud FinchleyCommon by three Footpads, who took from the Paflengers the Value of up. wards of twenty Pounds.

Laft Tuesday Night Mr. Stalley, a Looking-Glafs and Picture-Frame Maker in Carnaby-Market, hot himfelf thro' the Head with a Fowling-Piece, which he difcharg'd by tying his Garter to the Trigger and to one of his Feet.

On Saturday Night the Seffions ended at the Old Baily, when the eight following Malefactors receiv'd Sentence of Death, viz

Laft Tuesday Mr. Ryley's Black Mare, Black-Jake, Mr. Grefwood's Bay Mare, Little Gift, and another ftarted at Epfom for the Galloway Farfe of 20 Guineas, which was won by Black Joke, though hard run, and there was excellent Sport.

Laft Wednesday Night came Advice to the Poft-Office, that a Man was taken in the West of England on a ftrong Sufpicion of robbing the Weft Mail, there being found on him feve ral Notes that were in the faid Mail at the Time of its being taken from the Poft Boy.

Wednesday the Rev. Mr. Whitefield preach'd to about 20,000 People on Kennington-Common, and collected 471. for the Benefit of the Orphan Houfe in Georgia,
