Jesu, in mercy bring us

To that dear land of rest;
Who art, with God the Father,
And Spirit, ever blest. Amen.

BERNARD OF CLUGNY. Tr. J. M. NEALE.

162.

I. There is a blessèd home
Beyond this land of woe,
Where trials never come,
Nor tears of sorrow flow;
Where faith is lost in sight,
And patient hope is crowned,
And everlasting light

Its glory throws around.
2. There is a land of peace,
Good angels know it well;
Glad songs that never cease
Within its portals swell;
Around its glorious throne

Ten thousand saints adore
Christ, with the Father One
And Spirit, evermore.

3. O joy all joys beyond,

Eight 6's.

To see the Lamb Who died,
And count each sacred wound
In Hands, and Feet, and Side;

To give to Him the praise
Of every triumph won,
And sing through endless days
The great things He hath done.

4. Look up, ye saints of God,
Nor fear to tread below
The path your Saviour trod
Of daily toil and woe;
Wait but a little while

In uncomplaining love,

His own most gracious smile

Shall welcome you above. Amen.

SIR HENRY W. BAKER.

163.

1. Sing we the song of those who stand
Around the eternal throne,

Of every kindred, clime, and land,
A multitude unknown.

2. Toil, trial, suffering still await
On earth the pilgrim-throng;
Yet learn we in our low estate
The Church-triumphant song.

3. Worthy the Lamb, for sinners slain,
Cry the redeemed above,

Blessing and honour to obtain,
And everlasting love.

C.M.

4. Worthy the Lamb, on earth we sing,
Who died our souls to save;

Henceforth, O Death, where is thy sting?
Thy victory, O Grave?

5. Then, Hallelujah! power and praise
To God, in Christ, be given;

May all who now this anthem raise
Renew the strain in Heaven. Amen.

JAMES MONTGOMERY.

[blocks in formation]

1. Jesus, the Shepherd of the sheep,
Thy little flock in safety keep,

The flock for which Thou cam'st from
Heaven,

The flock for which Thy life was given.

2. Thou saw'st them wandering far from Thee

Secure, as if from danger free;

Thy love did all their wanderings trace
And brought them to a wealthy place.

3. O guard Thy sheep from beasts of prey,
And guide them that they never stray :
Cherish the young, sustain the old,
Let none be feeble in Thy fold.

4. Secure them from the scorching beam, And lead them to the living stream: In verdant pastures let them lie,

And watch them with a Shepherd's eye.

5. O may Thy sheep discern Thy voice,
And in its sacred sound rejoice;
From strangers may they ever flee,
And know no other guide but Thee!

6. Lord, bring Thy sheep that wander yet, And let the number be complete ;

Then let Thy flock from earth remove
And occupy the fields above. Amen.

THOMAS KElly.

Third Sunday after Easter.

165.

I. For thee, O dear, dear country,
Mine eyes their vigils keep;

For very love, beholding

Thy happy name, they weep,
The mention of thy glory

Is unction to the breast,

And medicine in sickness,
And love, and life, and rest.

D. 7.6.

2. O one, O only mansion!
O Paradise of joy!

Where tears are ever banished,
And smiles have no alloy;
The Lamb is all thy splendour;
The Crucified thy praise;
His laud and benediction

Thy ransomed people raise.

3. With jasper glow thy bulwarks,
Thy streets with emeralds blaze;
The sardius and the topaz
Unite in thee their rays;
Thine ageless walls are bounded
With amethyst unpriced;
The Saints build up thy fabric,
The corner-stone is Christ.

4. Thou hast no shore, fair ocean!
Thou hast no time, bright day!
Dear fountain of refreshment
To pilgrims far away!

Upon the Rock of Ages

They raise thy holy tower;

Thine is the victor's laurel,

And thine the golden dower.
