out fiery vapours, and sending forth bright beams, it dimmeth the eyes. 13 Great is the Lord that made it; and at his commandment it runneth hastily. 14 He made the moon also to serve in her season for a declaration of times, and a sign of the world. 15 From the moon is the sign of feasts, a light that decreaseth in her perfection. 16 The month is called after her name, increasing wonderfully in her changing, being an instrument of the armies above, shining in the firmament of heaven; 17 The beauty of heaven, the glory of the stars, an ornament giving light in the highest places of the Lord. 18 At the commandment of the Holy One they will stand in their order, and never faint in their watches. 19 Look upon the rainbow, and praise him that made it; very beautiful it is in the brightness thereof. 20 It compasseth the heaven about with a glorious circle, and the hands of the Most High have bended it. 21 By his commandment he maketh the snow to fall apace, and sendeth swiftly the lightnings of his judgement. 22 Through this the treassres are opened: and clouds fly forth as fowls. 23 By his great power he maketh the clouds firm, and the hailstones are broken small. 24 At his sight the moun
tains are shaken, and at his will the south wind bloweth. 25 The noise of the thunder maketh the earth to tremble : so doth the northern storm and the whirlwind; as birds flying he scattereth the snow, and the falling down thereof is as the lighting of grasshoppers: 26 The eye marvelleth at the beauty of the whiteness thereof, and the heart is astonished at the raining of it. 27 The hoar frost also as salt he poureth on the earth, and being congealed, it lieth on the top of sharp stakes. 28 When the cold north wind bloweth, and the water is congealed into ice, it abideth upon every gathering together of water, and clotheth the water as with a breastplate. 29 It devoureth the mountains, and burneth the wilderness, and consumeth the grass as fire. 30 A present remedy of all is a mist coming speedily: a dew coming after heat refresheth. * 31 By his counsel he appeaseth the deep, and planteth islands therein. 32 They that sail on the sea tell of the danger thereof; and when we hear it with our ears, we marvel thereat. 33 For therein be strange and wondrous works, variety of all kinds of beasts and whales created. 34 By him the end of them hath prosperous success, and by his word all things consist. 35 We may speak much, and M
yet come short: wherefore in sum, He is all. 36 How shall we be able to magnify him for he is great above all his works. 37 The Lord is terrible and very great, and marvellous is his power. 38 When ye glorify the Lord, exalt him as much as ye can ; for even yet will he far exceed: and when ye exalt him, put forth all your strength, and be not weary; for ye can never go far enough. 39 Who hath seen him, that he might tell us? and who can magnify him as he is 2 40 There are yet hid greater things than these be, for we have seen but a few of his works. 41 For the Lord hath made all things; and to the godly hath he given wisdom.

SEction II.-God's Power and Mercy.
O Lord, Lord, the King Almighty : the whole world is in thy power, and if thou hast appointed to save Israel, there is no man can gainsay thee:
2 For thou hast made heaven and earth, and all the wondrous things under the heaven. 3 Thou art Lord of all things, and there is no man that can resist thee, which art the Lord. 4 Thou knowest all things:
thou hast power of life and death: thou leadest to the gates of hell, and bringest up again. 5 A man indeed killeth through his malice; and the spirit, when it is gone forth, returneth not ; neither the soul received up cometh again. 6 But it is not possible to escape thine hand. 7 For great are thy judgements, and cannot be expressed. 8 For who shall say, What hast thou done P or who shall withstand thy judgement 2 or who shall accuse thee for the nations that perish, whom thou hast made or who shall come to stand against thee, to be revenged for the unrighteous men ; 9 Thine almighty word leaped down from heaven out of thy royal throne, as a fierce man of war into the midst of a land of destruction; 10 And brought thine unfeigned commandment as a sharp sword, and standing up filled all things with death; and it touched the heaven, but it stood upon the earth. 11 For neither is there any God but thou that carest for all, to whom thou mightest shew that thy judgement is not unright. 12 Neither shall king or tyrant be able to set his face against thee for any whom thou hast punished. * 13 Forsomuch then as thou art righteous thyself, thou orderest all things righteously: thinking it not agreeable with thy power to condemn him
that hath not deserved to be punished. 14 For thy power is the beginning of righteousness, and because thou art the Lord of all, it maketh thee to be gracious unto all. 15 For when men will not believe that thou art of a full power, thou shewest thy strength, and among them that know it thou makest their boldness manifest. 16 But thou, mastering thy power, judgest with equity, and orderest us with great favour: for thou mayest use power when thou wilt. 17 By such works hast thou taught thy people that the just man should be merciful, and hast made thy children to be of a good hope that thou givest repentance for sins. 18 Thou, O God, art gracious and true, longsuffering, and in mercy ordering all things. 19 For if we sin, we are thine, knowing thy power: but we will not sin, knowing that we are counted thine. 20 For to know thee is perfectrighteousness: yea, to know thy power is the root of immortality. 21 For thine incorruptible Spirit is in all things. 22 Therefore chastenest thou them by little and little that offend, and warnest them by putting them in remembrance wherein they have offended, that leaving their wickedness they may believe on thee, O Lord. 23 For thou canst shew thy great strength at all times when thou wilt; and who may withstand the power of thine arm 2 24 For the whole world before thee is as a little grain of the balance, yea, as a drop of the morning dew that falleth down upon the earth. 25 But thou hast mercy upon all; for thou canst do all things, and winkest at the sins of men, because they should amend. 26 And executing thy judgements upon them by little and little, thou gavest them place of repentance. 27 For thou lovest all the things that are, and abhorrest nothing which thou hast made : for never wouldest thou have made any thing, if thou hadst hated it. 28 And how could anything have endured, if it had not been thy will? or been preserved, if not called by thee * 29 But thou sparest all : for they are thine, O Lord, thou lover of souls.
O Lord, Lord God, Creator of all things, who art fearful and strong, and righteous, and merciful, and the only and gracious king, 2 The only giver of all things, the only just, almighty, and everlasting, thou that deliveredst Israel from all trouble, and didst choose the fathers, and sanctify them : 3 Receive the sacrifice for thy whole people Israel, and
preserve thine own portion, and sanctify it. 4 Gather those together that are scattered from us, deliver them that serve among the heathen, look upon them that are despised and abhorred, and let the heathen know that thou art our God. 5 Thou, O Lord of all things, who hast need of nothing, wast pleased that the temple of thine habitation should be among us: 6 Therefore now, O holy Lord of all holiness, keep thine house ever undefiled, and stop every unrighteous mouth. 7 O Israel, how great is the house of God! and how large is the place of his possession : 8 Great, and hath none end; high, and unmeasurable. * 9 Be of good comfort, O Israel; and be not heavy, thou house of Jacob; 10 For the Highest hath you in remembrance, and the Mighty hath not forgotten you in temptation. 11 Now therefore bless ye the God of all, which only doeth wondrous things every where, which exalteth our days from the womb, and dealeth with us according to his mercy. 12 He grant us joyfulness of heart, and that peace may be in our days in Israel for ever: 13 That he would confirm his mercy with us, and deliver us at his time ! * 14 God be gracious unto you, and remember his covenant that he made with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, his faithful servants;
