II. Faith, thus receiving and refting on Chrift and his righteousness,

and whofe fins are covered. v. 8. Bleffed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute fin. 2 Cor. V. 19. To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the word unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. v. 21. For he hath made him to be fin for us, who knew no fin; that we might be made the righteoufnefs of God in him. Rom. iii. 22. Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jefus Chrift unto all, and upon all them that believe; for there is no difference: v. 24. Being juflified freely by his grace, through the redemption that is in Jefus Chrift: v. 25. Whom God hath fet forth to be a propitiation, through faith in his blood, to declare his righteoufnefs for the remiffion of fins that are past, through the forbearance of God. V. 27. Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay; but by the law of faith. v. 28. Therefore we conclude, that a man is juftified by faith without the deeds of the law. Tit. iii. 5. Not by works of righteoufnefs, which we have done, but according to his mercy he faved us by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost: v. 7. That being juftified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Eph. i. 7. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of fins, according to the riches of his grace. Jer. xxiii. 6. In his days Judah fhall be faved, and Ifrael fhall dwell fafely and this is his name where

c Acts x. 44. While Peter yet fpake thefe words, the Holy Ghoft fell on all them which heard the word. Gal. ii. 16. Knowing that a man is not juftified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jefus Chrift, even we have believed in Jefus Chrift, that we might be juftified by the faith of Chrift, and not by the works of the law for by the works of the law fhall no flesh be juftified. Phil. iii. 9. And be found in him, not having mine own righteoufnefs, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Chrift, the. righteoufnefs which is of God by faith. Acts xiii. 38. Be it known unto you there fore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgivenefs of fins: v. 39. And by

righteoufnefs, is the alone inftrument of juftification d; yet is it not alone in the perfon juftified, but is ever accompanied with all other faving graces, and is no dead faith, but worketh by love e.

III. Chrift, by his obedience and death, did fully dif charge the debt of all thofe that are thus juftified, and did make a proper, real, and full fatisfaction to his Father's juftice in their behalf f. Yet, in as much as he was gi

him all that believe are justified from all things, from the which ye could not be juftified by the law of Mofes. Eph. ii. 7. That in the ages to come he might fhew the exceeding riches of his grace, in his kindness towards us, through Chrift Jefus. v. 8. For by grace are ye faved, through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.

II. d John i. 12. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the fons of God, even to them that believe on his name. Rom. iii. 28. Therefore we conclude, that a man is justified by faith, without the deeds of the law. Rom. v. 1. Therefore being juftified by faith, we have peace with God, through our Lord Jefus Chrift.

e James ii. 17. Even fo faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. v. 22. Seeft thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? v. 26. For as the body without the fpirit is dead, fo faith without works is dead alfo. Gal. v. 6. For in Jefus Christ, beither circumcifion availeth any thing, nor uncircumcifion, but faith which worketh by love.

III. Rom. v. 8. But God commendeth his love towards us, in that while we were yet finners, Chrift died for us. v. 9. Much more then being now juftified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through

him. v. 10. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son much more being reconciled, we fhall be faved by his life. V. 19. For as by one man's difobedience many were made finners: fo by the obedience of one fhall many be made righteous. 1 Tim. ii. 5. For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jefus v. 6. Who gave himself a ranfom for all, to be teftified in due time. Heb. x. 10. By the which will we are fanctified, through the offering of the body of Jefus Chrift once for all. v. 14. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are fanctified. Dan. ix. 24. Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people, and upon thy holy city, to finish the tranfgreffion, and to make an end of fins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteoufnefs, and to feal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy. v. 26. And after threescore and two weeks fhall Meffiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come, shall destroy the city, and the fanctuary, and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war defolations are determined. Ifa. liii. 4. Surely he hath born our griefs, and carried our forrows: yet we did efteem him ftricken,

All we like fheep have gone aftray: we have turned every one to his own way, and the Lord hath laid to him the iniquity of us all. V. 10. Yet it pleafed the Lord to bruife him, he hath put him to grief; when thou fhalt make his foul an offering for fin, he fhall fee his feed, he fhall prolong his days, and the pleafure of the Lord fhall profper in his hand. V. II. He fhall fee of the travel of his foul, and fhall be fatisfied: by his knowledge fhall my righteous fervant juftify many: for he fhall bear their iniquities. V. 12. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he fhall divide the fpoil with the ftrong: because he hath poured out his foul unto death: and he was numbred with the tranfgreffors, and he bare the fin of many, and made interceffion for the tranfgreffors.

IV. / Gal. iii. 8. And the Scripture foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gofpel unto Abraham, faying, In thee fhall all nations be bleffed. 1 Pet. i. 2. Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through fanctification of the Spirit unto obedier ce, and sprinkling of the blood of Jefus Chrift. v. 19. But with the precious blood of Chrift, as of a Lamb without blemish and without fpot: v. 20. Who verily was fore-ordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifeft in these last times for you. Rom. viii. 30. Moreover, whom he did predeftinate, them he alfo called and whom he called, them he alfo juftified: and whom

God doth continue to forgive the fins of those that are justified and although they can never fall from the state of juftification p, yet they may by their fins fall under God's fatherly difpleafure, and not have the light of his countenance reftored unto them, until they humble themselves, confefs their fins, beg pardon, and renew their faith and repentance q.

Which he fhed on us abundantly, through Jefus Chrift our Saviour. v. 7. That being juftified by his grace, we fhould be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

V. Matth. vi. 12. And forgive ús our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 1 John i. 7. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another,

If we confefs our fins, he is faithful, and just to forgive us our fins, and to cleanfe us from all unrighteoufnefs. 1 John ii. 1. My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye fin not. And if any man fin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jefus Chrift the righteous. v. 2. And he is the propitiation for our fins: and not for ours only, but alfo for the fins of the whole world.
