What happened upon Jesus desiring the young man to arise?

To whom did Jesus deliver him?

What do you mean by "fear" coming on all? A. A religious dread, Whom did they glorify? What did they say? What can he who raised one man from the dead, do with respect to others?

Do we not know Jesus in a higher character than that of a Prophet?

A. Yes, as a Saviour. What do you mean by " rumour ?"

the bier, and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. And he that was dead, sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother. And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people. And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judea, and throughout all the region round about.

So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at

What did a certain nobleman do, whose son was sick at Capernaum? What did he beseech Jesus Capernaum. When he heard to do?

What did Jesus reply? What signs and wonders did Jesus mean?

A. Miracles.

In what words did the nobleman still urge him to go?

What did Jesus then say to him?

What did the man think

that Jesus was come out of Judea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down and heal his son: for he was at the point of death. Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders ye will not believe. The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.

of the word which Jesus had spoken ?

At what hour had the fever left him?

What o'clock was the seventh hour?

A. One o'clock.

From what time did the Jews begin to reckon their day?

A. Six o'clock in the morning.

What did the nobleman then remember?

What was remarkably shown by Christ healing by his word a sick person, whom he did not see?

A. His divine power. What effect did this miracle produce on the nobleman and his whole house?

Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth.

And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way. And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth. Then inquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth; and himself believed, and his whole house.

ST. MATT. viii. 23. Christ calms the tempest. And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves but he was asleep. And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord save us: we perish. And he said unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? then he arose, and re

What did the disciples do? What should his disciples have had?

What did he then do?

What did his disciples do when they saw the storm instantly cease, and the sea become smooth?

What did they say?

ST. LUKE viii. 41. What are the next miracles mentioned ?

Where are they written? What situation had Jairus? What was his request to Jesus?

What happened to him as he went ?

What do you mean by "thronged."

A. Crowded.

Who came behind Jesus and touched the border of his garment?

Upon whom had she spent all her living?

What could none of the physicians do?

What happened immediately on her touching the garment of Jesus?

What do you mean by "staunched ?"

A. Stopped. What did Jesus then say? What observation did Peter make?

What did Jesus still continue to say?

How did Jesus know that some one had touched him for a particular purpose?

buked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?

ST. LUKE Viii. 41. Christ healeth the bloody issue, and raiseth Jairus's daughter.

And behold there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue, and he fell down at Jesus' feet, and besought him that he would come into his house; for he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying. But as he went the people thronged him. And a woman, having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood staunched. And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter, and they that were with him, said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me. And when

A. Because virtue had gone out of him. What do you mean by that?

A. That some healing virtue had gone out of him, that some one had been healed by the touch.

What did the woman do when she saw that she was discovered?

What did Jesus say had occasioned her being healed?

How did she prove this faith?

A. By being firmly convinced, that by merely touching the garment of Jesus, she would be healed.

What happened while Jesus was even yet speaking? What did Jesus tell Jairus?

When they came to the house, what did Jesus do? What did they all do? But what did Jesus say? Why did they laugh him to scorn?

What did Jesus do to them?

What did he say when he took the damsel by the hand?

What do you mean by "her spirit came again?"

A. She was restored to life.

Why did he command to give her meat?

A. Not merely to refresh

the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people, for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately. And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace. While he yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue's house, saying to him, Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the master. But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not; believe only, and she shall be made whole. And when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden. And all wept, and bewailed her; but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead. And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise. And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway and he commanded to give her meat. And her parents were astonished but he charged them that they should tell no man what was done.

How many were there in

number that sat down?

What did Jesus do before he distributed the loaves?

What lesson do we learn from this?

A. Always to give thanks or say grace before meals.

What was then done with the food?

Were they all filled? What did he then say to his disciples?

What may we learn from that command?

A. Not to be wasteful. How many baskets full did they gather up?

ST. JOHN vi. 5. The Miracle of the loaves and fishes.

When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat? (And this he said to prove him for he himself knew what he would do.) Philip_answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little. One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, saith unto him, There is a lad here which hath five barley loaves and two small fishes; but what are they among so many? And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would. When they were filled he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that no
