I will in no wise cast out. For I came down from Heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father's will, which hath sent me, That of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, That every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last Will Christ cast out any day. who come to him? Whence did Christ come How does he say that he knows the Father? What does he do for the sheep? What other sheep does Christ say he has ? A. The Gentiles. Who were the Gentiles? A. All nations who were not Jews. What does he say that he must do for them? And what would they hear? And what would they all, both Jews and Gentiles, be made? Why does the Father love Christ? From whom did he receive this commandment? CHAPTER VI. When was this discourse spoken? Where is it written? What was the passover ? A. A solemn festival of the Jews, so called in re so know I the Father: I lay down my life for the sheep. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold, and one Shepherd. Therefore doth my Father loveme, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father. membrance of their coming out of Egypt, when the destroying Angel slew all the first-born of the Egyptians, and passed over the houses of the Israelites which were marked with blood. If a corn of wheat does not fall into the ground, and die, what becomes of it? What is meant by "abideth alone?" A. "It will not increase." If it die, what will happen? What then must happen to a grain of wheat, that it may bring forth fruit? What will happen to him that loveth his life? What do you mean by "he that loveth his life shall lose it?" A. He who loveth the things of this life more than heavenly things, shall lose eternal life. What will happen to him that hateth his life in this world? What is meant by "hating his life ?" A. Choosing rather to lose it, than forsake his religion. If any man serve Christ, what must he do? What will happen to him if he follows Christ? What will the Father do to any man who serves Christ? die, it bringeth forth much fruit. He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. If any man serve me, let him follow me: and where I am, there shall also my servant be; if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. What did he say that they called him? Did they do right in calling him so? Was he their Master and Lord? If he who was their Lord and Master, washed their feet, what ought they to do to one another? What had he given them an example to do? Who was not greater than his Lord? What is he that is sent? Did Christ send his disciples, or did they send him? What then ought the disciples of Christ to be ready to do? What does Christ say? What then besides the knowing of Christ's will, is necessary in order to make you happy? CHAPTER IX. When was this discourse spoken ? To whom? Where is it written? What is the subject of it? Our Saviour had been speaking of his going away; what does he encourage his disciples not to be? In whom does he say they believed? In whom also does he tell them to believe? What are there in his Father's house? |
