THE COLLEGE-CHURCH

In the following meditations you are supposed

to join with me. And I hope many of you really did so, when part of them was delivered in your hearing, in the ordinary course of reading and expounding the New Testament, and in praying over what was read. If they shall, by the divine blessing, be of the least use to you, or to any who may be willing to improve them in an attempt to read the sacred writings with prayer and personal application, the publication of them will not be in vain; for certainly,

TO THE

PRESENT IMPROVED EDITION.

THE very high estimation in which the late

Dr. GILLIES's "Devotional Exercises" have long and deservedly been held by the Christian world, may, perhaps, render any apology unnecessary for offering the present improved edition to the Public.

The two Volumes having been published separately, and at distant intervals, have long since been out of print; so that complete copies could with difficulty be procured.

In order to render this excellent work more extensively useful, the sacred text of the New Testament has been incorporated; the whole has been broken down into SECTIONS of moderate length, dictated by their subject matter; and select references are also introduced to the phecies therein cited.

Such has been the task of the present Editor and Proprietors, who now commit this edition to the candid acceptance of the Christian Public; in the hope that, thus corrected and improved, it will be found alike useful in the family and in the closet.
