The following Report was received after the foregoing pages of this Journal were in print: St. James' Church, New-York; the Rev. CORNELIUS B. SMITH, Rector. The Rev. Peter S. Chauncey, D. D., became Rector of St. James' Church in 1850, and continued in this office until December 14, 1866, when he fell asleep in Jesus, at the age of fifty-six years. A model Pastor, a faithful Preacher, an earnest Christian, and a perfect gentleman has thus been called to his rest. He was very remarkable for his incessant and loving visitations among his flock, and for his personal share in all the sorrows and joys of his people. Struggling against the inroads of consumption, he stood by his post to the last-officiating at a marriage in the Church two days before his death. The present Rector entered upon his charge on the 19th of May, 1867. His report of Parish statistics must necessarily be imperfect for the present year. Baptisms, infants, 4. Marriages, 4. Funerals, 8. Offerings, $931 47. Sunday School Teachers, 16. Scholars, 120. |
