CHAP. II.

God gives a greater measure of Grace to one than to another.

Although God is pleas'd to give his

Grace to all Men, yet he doth

not give it us all alike, or in equal por tions; to one he is pleas'd to give more of it than to another. There are de grees of Grace as well as of Glory. There are diverfities of Gifts faith St. Paul, I Cor. 12. 4. The Grace of God is Manifold, faith St. Peter, 1 Pet. 4. 1o. and this is confirmed by the parable of our Lord Jefus Chrift, in St. Mathew, to one he gave five Talents, to another two, to another one. Do you not believe that he bestowed more Grace on St. Paul than on Judas? And who can doubt but that he Communicated more Light to the mind of the Apoftles, and more Zeal to their Hearts for Preaching and maintaining the truth of the Holy Gofpel, than he gave to the rest of the unbelieving Jews, who declar'd them. felves Rebels to his Holy Infpirations ? Et quoy qu' en rigueur il ne foit obligé á perfonne, touttefois étant un Dieu d'une bonté & mifericorde infinie, il donne á tous ce qui eft fuffifant á falut.

And though, in ftrictners, he is indebted to no Man, yet being a God of infinite Goodness and Mercy, the vouchfafes to all what is fufficient to Salvation.

CHAP. III.

God gives to all Men Grace fufficient to Salvation.

Although it is Evident, both by the

that God gives a greater measure of Grace to one Man than to another, yet we cannot tax God with the leaft injuftice. He is under no Obligation to us, and may do whatever feems him good, nor dare any Man fay to him, why doeft thou fo? Notwithstanding if

we are not Saved, we must not impute our Perdition to God Almighty, fince he gives to every Man a fufficient meafure of Grace to work out his own Salvation. This cannot be denied unless we will deny these words of S. Paul to Titus 2. 11. The Grace of God' which bringeth Salvation appear'd unto all Men. Thole words, you fee, exprefs a Grace -univerfal, and fufficient to Salvation. Appeared unto all Men, there you have Grace Univerfal given to all Men. Which bringeth Salvation, there you have it fufficient. Judge I pray you, saith God by bis Prophet Ifaiah, betwixt me and my Vineyard; what could have been done more to my Vineyard that I have not done in it? 5. 3.
