The Gosfiel: St. John xvi. 23. ERILY, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye simall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: Ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. These things have 1 spoken unto you in proverbs: the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs ; but I shall show you plainly of the Father. At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you ; for the father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God. I came forth from the Father. and am come into the world: Again, I leave the world, and go to the Father. His disci, ples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb. Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God. Jesus anwered them, Do ye now believe? Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered every man to his own, and shall leave me alone : and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.
The Ascension Day.
RANT, we beseech thee, Almighty God, that like as we do believe thy only pegotten Son our Lord Jesus Christ to have ascended into the heavens; so we may also in heart and mind thither ascend, and with him continually dwell, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end. Amen. For the Eftistle. Acts i. 1.
HE former treatise have ! I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, until the day in which he was taken up, after that he, through the Holy Ghost, had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: To whom also he showed . himself alive after his passion, y many infallible proofs, be-ing seen of them forty days, . and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: and being assembled to-gether with them, commanded them that they should not de-part from Jerusalem, but wait . for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard »f me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy
Ghost, not many days hence. When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou it this time restore again the
said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you : and ye shall be witnesses utto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. And when he had spoken these things. while they beheld, he was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven, as he went up. behold, two men, stood by them in white apparel; which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven : This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
The Gosfiel. St. Mark xvi. 14.
ESUS appeared unto the eleven, as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature. He that believeth, and is baptized, shall be saved; but he that believeth not, shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe : In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall wake up serpents; and if they

To Peter opened his onmouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons; but in every nation, he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him. The word which God sent unto the clildren of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ, (he is Lord of all ;) that word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee, after thebaptism which John preached: How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost, and with power; who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. And we are witnesses of all things which he did, both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem : whom they slew, and hanged on a tree: Him God raised up the third day, and showed him openly; not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God ; even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead. And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the judge of quick and dead. To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name.
shall receive remission of sins: While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Goost fell on all them who heard the word. And they of the circumcision who believed, were astonisixed, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they beard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, who have received the Holy Ghost as well as we ? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
The Gosfiel. St. John iii. 16.
OD so loved the world,
that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh

to the light, lest his deeds
should be reproved. But be that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

For the Eftistle. Acts viii. 14.
WHEN the Apostles, who were at Jerusalem, heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John ; who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them; only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus:) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
The Goeftel. St. John x. 1.
ERILY, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. But he that en
follow, but will flee from him ; for they know not the voice of strangers. This parable spake Jesus unto them; but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them. Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep; All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers; but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door : by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. The thief cometh not but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have lise, and that they might have it more abundantly.

For the Eftistle. Rev. iv. 1.
FTER this I looked, and behold, a door was opened in heaven : and the first voice which I heard, was as it were of a trumpet, talking with me ; which said, Come up hither, and I will show thee things which must be hereafter. And immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne : and he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine-stone : and there was a rain-bow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald. And round about the throne were four and twenty seats; and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold : and out of the throne proceeded lightnings, and thunderings, and voices. And there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven spirits of God. And before the throne, there was a sea of glass, like unto crystal. And in the midst of the throne, and round about the , throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind . And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had
a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle. And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him ; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come. And when those beasts give glory and honour, and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever, the four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory, and honour, and power; for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are, and were created.
The Gosfiel. St. John iii. 1.
HERE was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews : The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God : For no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old 2 can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born ?
Jesus answered, Verily, verily,
