that the Ministers and Stewards of thy mysteries may likewise so prepare and make ready thy way, by turning the hearts of the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, that, at thy second coming to judge the world, we may be found an acceptable people in thy sight, who livest and reignest with the Father and the holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end. The Efistle. I Cor. iv. 1.
ET a man so account of us, as of the Ministers of Christ, and Stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover, it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful. But with me it is a very small thing, that I should be judged of you or of man's judgment : yea, I judge not mine own self. For I know nothing by myself, yet am I not hereby justified; but he that judgeth me is the Lord Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.
The Gosfuel. St. Matt. xi. 2.
OW when John had heard - in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, and said unto him. Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?
those things which ye do hear and see : The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them : And blessed is he whosoever shall not be offended in me. And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see : A reed shaken with the wind? But what went ye out for to see : A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings houses. But what went ye out for to see ? A prophet yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet. For this is he of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
The Fourth Sunday in Advent. The Collect.
LORD, raise up, we pray thee, thy power, and come among us, and with great might succour us; that whereas through our sins and wickedness, we are sore let and hindered in running the race that is set before us, thy bountiful grace and mercy may speedily help and deliver us, through the satisfaction of thy Son our Lord: to whom, with thee and the Holy Ghost,

OW I say, that the heir,
as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; but is under tutors and governors, until the time appointed of the father. Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world; but when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And, because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou air o more a servant, but a so "" and if a son, then an i: God through Christ.
The Gosfiel. St. Matt. i. 18.
HE birth of Jesus Christ
was on this wise : when as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared
Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife; for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost: And she shall bring forth a Son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus; for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a Virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a Son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which, being interpreted, is, God with us. Then Joseph beingraised from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife : And knew her not until she had brought forth her first-born $on; and he called his name Jesus.
The Circumcision of Christ.
LMIGHTY God, who madest thy blessed Son to be circumcised, and obedient to the law for man; grant us the true circumcision of the Spirit, that, our hearts and all our members being mortified from all worldly and carnal lusts, we may in all things obey thy blessed will, through the same thy Son Jesus Christ
our Lord. Amen.
The Eftistle. Rom. iv. 8.
LESSED is the man to whom the Lord will not
unto hit " a dream, saying,
impute sin. Cometh this bless
edness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also 2 For we say, that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness. How was it then reckoned : when he was in circumcision or in uncircumcision ? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision. And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had, yet being uncircumcised; that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also: And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only. but also walk in the steps o that faith of our father Abraham, which he had, yet being uncircumcised. For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed. through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect.
The Goshel. St. Luke ii. 15.
ND it came to pass, as
the angels were gone away from them into heaven. the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass. which the Lord hath made
Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them. And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angelbefore he was conceived in the womb. * The same Collect, Ehistle, and Gosfel shall serve for every day after, unto the E/lishamy.

OR this causc, I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles; if ye have
known unto us. And they came with haste, and found,
heard of the dispensation of the grace of God, which is
iven me to you-ward : How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery (as I wrote afore in few words, whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy Apostles and Prophets by the Spirit; that the Gentiles should be fellow-heirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ, by the Gospel; whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God, given unto me by the effectual working of his power. Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; and to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: to the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in hea. venly places might be known, by the Church, the manifold wisdom of God, according to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord ; in whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.
The Goshel. St. Matt. ii. 1.
HEN Jesus was born in
behold there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews 2 for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. When Herod the King had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born. And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judea : For thus it is written by the prophet, And thou Bethlehem in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda; for out of thee shall' come a Governor that shall rule my people Israel. Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, inquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go, and search diligently for the young child, and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also. When they had heard the King, they departed ; and lo, the star which they saw in the east went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down and worshipped
the days of Herod the King,
