were to be its main Ingredients, and indeed, it is the proper effect of a devout thankfulness, to foften the Heart and to enlarge the Bowels; and to infpire us with so true a love of God, as will not fail to extend it self to all his Children.

Thus if we proceed according to this Method, we shall duly comply with the Engagements we lie under, and acquit our felves as we ought of the Duty that is incumbent on us; we fhall after an acceptable manner acknowledge the Divine Favour, in making our Realm quiet, and giving Reft to us round about.

Let us then who have now received fuch a Bleffing, as the modesty of our Hopes could hardly aim at, look up to God the Authour of it, with Souls that are filled with Gratitude and Love; and with firm Refolutions to answer his Gracious End in it, by the unblameablness hereafter of our Lives and Conversations: From thence let us turn our Eyes upon our Gracious Soveraign, the bleffed Inftrument of our Quiet and Tranquility, and let the fense of fuch obligations imprint upon our Hearts, the

lafting Characters of Loyalty and Affection: let us laftly take a view of our Fellow-Subjects, our Sharers and Companions in the Benefits we have receiv'd; Peace has united us in one common band of Amity; let us improve this Opportunity 'till the Union is fo intimate, that nothing may be able to diffolve it hereafter: Let all our private Feuds and Animofites, find a com mon Grave with our publick En mities? and the God of Peace and Confolation grant us to be like minded one towards another: then will this Bleffing be an earnest of greater; this Devout Rejoycing will be but a prelude, to that Joy of our Lord which no Man can take from us; and this outward Peace will but lead the way, to that inward Tranquillity which results from a good Confcience, and to that Peace of God which paffeth all understanding. Now to Cod the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost be afcribed all Honour, Power, Might, Majefty, and Dominion, henceforth and forevermore, Amen,

Behold, thou art made whole; Sin no more, left a worse thing come unto thee.

Hefe words were spoken by our Blessed Saviour, to one whom he had rescu'd from a troublefome Infirmity, which (other wife than by Miracle ) feem'd to be incuriable. But as all the Actions of his Live were general Examples, fo all the Words of his Mouth were univerfal Precepts; none of them being fo narrowly reftrain'd to that particular occa fion, as not to be applicable to others attended with the like Circumftances:
