This spirit beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God, by which we are enabled to cry, Abba, Father. (f) We read in the 40th chapter of Exodus, v. 36. That when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the Israelites went onward in all their journeyings; but if the cloud was not taken up, then they journeyed not till the day that it was taken up. For the cloud of the Lord was upon the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journies. whose mercies fail not, withdrew not the tokens of his presence from them, till they were brought into the promised land. That when the tabernacle became fixed, it appears to have been confined to the Holy of Holies upon the mercy-seat between the cherubim; till He, the Bright and Morning Star, arose, with healing in his wings, a light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of his people Israel.

KIBROTH signifies a Grave; and Aveh and Aveth, Concupiscence, or Graves of Greediness. We find in the 11th chapter of Numbers, that the people lusted for flesh, and it so displeased the Almighty, that they were consumed in the uttermost part of the camp by the plague, which brake in upon them after they had began to eat of the quails, God in judgment had sent among them. Though they had so lately received the law; yet how soon did they break it! On feeling the difficulties and fatigues of their journey, their complaints were again renewed against him who had hitherto fed them with angels' food, and had clave the rock to quench their thirst.
