INTRODUCTORY.

OUR thanks are again due to the public for its generous reception of the Westminster Question Books of 1875, 1876 and 1877. The experience of the past has, we think, enabled us to make this, the fourth of the series, more complete and valuable than its predecessors. It is offered to the public with the confident hope and earnest prayer that it may prove a valuable aid in the study of the Bible.

The Question Book is a grade higher than the Lesson Leaf, and is specially adapted to the older and more intelligent classes. It contains the lessons for the entire year, helps for study, maps, illustrations, lesson plans, catechism, selections for home readings, index of proper names, index of leading events, etc., in a compact form, and will be found a great convenience for teachers as well as pupils.

The questions are not intended to be closely followed, but rather to be helpful to both teacher and scholar in independent study and thought. Special attention is called to the "Home Readings," as furnishing the connecting historical links between the lessons, and also collateral passages throwing light upon them. They have been selected with great care, and many parents have in past years found it interesting and profitable to use them in connection with the daily devotions of the family.

We cannot too strongly urge upon both teachers and scholars the importance of committing accurately to memory the selected verses, in bold type, and also the Golden Texts and questions from the Catechism. It is a distinctive feature of the book that it incorporates the Westminster Catechism with the Scripture lessons by constant reference to it, as well as by the selection of a question for every Sabbath.
