for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? [Matth. v. 38-47. Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.

[Rom. xii. 14. If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink: For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee. [Prov. xxv. 21, 22. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. [Rom. xii. 21. See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. [1 Thes. v. 15.

Forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. [Coloss. iii. 13. And be ye kind one to another, tender hearted, forgiv. ing one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. [Ephes. iv. 32.

And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive you. [Mark, xi. 25, 26.

FRIENDSHIP.

what a day may bring forth.

GLORY TO GOD-GODLINESS.

Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit; for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. [1 Cor. ii. 9, 10.

If our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. [2 Cor. v. 1. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise. [Luke, xxiii. 43.

GLORY TO GOD.

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. [Luke, ii. 14. Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. (1 Cor. x. 31.

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handy-work. [Psalm xix. 1.

O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth who hast set thy glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger. When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; what is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet; all sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; the fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas. O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! [Psalm viii. 1-9.

GODLINESS.

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sit. teth in the seat of the scornful: But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the

33 rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. [Ps. i. 1-6.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High, shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge, and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pesti. lence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruc. tion that wasteth at noon-day. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; there shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread npon the lion and adder; the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

[Ps. xci. 1-16

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil. [Prov. iv. 23-27.

GOVERNMENT-GRATITUDE TO GOD.

GOVERNMENT.

Rulers are not a terror to good works: Do that which is good and thou shalt have praise of the same.

[Rom. xiii. 3. Be subject to principalities and powers,-obey magistrates, and be ready to do every good work. [Tit. ii. 1. Render to all their dues;-tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. [Rom. xiii. 7.

Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evil doers, and for the praise of them that do well. For so is the will of God, that with welldoing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: As free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the King. [1 Peter, ii. 13-17.

GRATITUDE TO GOD.

Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them; while the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain: in the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease, because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened: and the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low; and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird; and all the daughters of music shall be brought low and when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond-tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail; because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the gol. den bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern: then shall the

dust return to the earth as it was; and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. [Eccles. xii. 1-7.

HOLINESS.

The fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance, against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

HONESTY.

[Gal. v. 22, 23.

Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in meteyard, in weight, or in measure. Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin, shall ye have.

(Lev. xix. 35, 36. As the partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatcheth them not; so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool. [Jer. xvii. 11. He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor. [Prov. xxviii. 8.

A false balance is abomination to the Lord : but a just weight is his delight. The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them. The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them. [Prov. xi. 1, 3, 6.

The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just. [Prov. iii. 33. He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil. [Isa. xxxiii. 15.

Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

HOPE.

[Ps. cxii. 4.

He that ploweth, should plow in hope, and he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.

[1 Cor. ix. 10.
