despising the one and defying

the other.

And now I would have you remark the way in which God rebukes His children. It is in a still small voice. When man finds fault it is generally in a loud and angry tone; but with his Maker it is not so. There is no impatient anger with Him, but gentle expostulation; and He chides in so soft a voice that none but yourself can hear what He has to say to you. It is the voice of a Friend; of One who loves you better than any other; of One who thinks of you, watches over you, cares for you, without cessation and

without weariness; of One who is always planning your good, and urging you to walk in the right way; of One who is desirous of holding constant communion with you, if only you will not always stop your ears of One who would have you to dwell with Him for ever, in those fair mansions He has prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

Remember then, dear reader, I beseech you, that when you are tempted to commit sin, and a secret voice within you warns you to resist the inclination,— remember, I say, that this is the voice of God; and, when

you hear it, shut not your ears, but say. "Speak, Lord, for Thy servant heareth."

"I need Thee, precious Jesus,
For I am very poor!
A stranger and a pilgrim,
I have no earthly store;

I need the love of Jesus

To cheer me on my way,
To guide my doubting footsteps,
To be my strength and stay.

"I need Thee, precious Jesus,
I need Thee day by day
To fill me with Thy fulness,
To lead me on my way;
I need Thy Holy Spirit

To teach me what I am,
To show me more of Jesus,
Tr. point me to the Lamb."

'Except ye be converted and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.' MATT. xviii. 3.

HOUGH men do not like to think so, and are very slow to believe it, yet it is nevertheless an undoubted fact, that unless a change has taken place in the heart, no soul can enter heaven. Let us, then, ponder this subject awhile, and see on what ground we ourselves are standing.

What is conversion? version means a change of mind. By nature our hearts are corrupt and prone to evil, and our inclinations are earthly and unholy; we do not like to retain God in our knowledgeHe is not in all our thoughts

-we would even try to persuade ourselves that "there is no God:" we are "foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another" (Titus iii. 3).

And this picture is the true one of an unregenerate heart, -of what man would be if
