loved, and began to regard the rolling waves, and to listen to the boisterous wind; and he was terrified. Then he began to sink. When his faith was strong, he could walk on the sea; but when he lost his trust, he began to sink. "Lord, save me," he cried; and Jesus immediately put forth His hand and caught him, with the tender rebuke, "O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?"

Our heavenly Father has promised to help His children in every time of their need; and yet, how few trust Him fully! how many are in their lives!

Those who look to Jesus need not fear though an host should rise up against them; neither when passing through the valley of the shadow of death. King David well understood the blessedness of trust in God. In the 73rd Psalm, 23rd and 24th verses, he joyfully exclaims, "Nevertheless I am continually with Thee: Thou hast holden me by my right hand. Thou shalt guide me with Thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory." Yes! that is the end of a living faith in our Saviour Christ. It gives us peace now, and a fadeless crown hereafter. "Fear

not," then, thou timid pilgrim! keep ever looking to thy Lord, and His strength will be made perfect in thy weakness.

"I heard the voice of Jesus say,
'Come unto Me, and rest;
Lay down, thou weary one, lay down
Thy head upon My breast;'
I came to Jesus as I was,

Weary, and worn, and sad,
I found in Him a resting-place,
And He has made me glad.

"I heard the voice of Jesus say,
Behold, I freely give

The living water, thirsty one,

Stoop down, and drink, and live :'
I came to Jesus, and I drank

Of that life-giving stream;

My thirst was quenched, and soul revived,
And now I live in Him."

WATCHFULNESS.

"I say unto all, Watch."-MARK xiii. 37.

T was our blessed Lord who uttered these words; and well would it be if "all" gave heed to them. He knew that where there is no watching, there is no praying; and where there is no praying, there is spiritual death. Will you

not strive to obey a command so necessary for your salvation? and will you not watch and

pray that you enter not into temptation?

It had been in answer to a question privately asked Him by His disciples, that He had graciously given them some particulars of the great and terrible signs that should precede His coming again. They were sitting together upon the Mount of Olives; and how breathless must have been their attention, as they listened in wonder and astonishment to the revelation of their Divine Master! The grand history was concluded by our Lord solemnly repeating more than once the injunction contained
