Fear of God.

thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee, before the sons of men! Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man.

Ps. 33. 18. Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.

Ps. 34. 7. The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. 9. O fear the Lord, ye his saints; for there is no want to them that fear him.

Ps. 25. 12. What man is he that feareth the Lord? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose. His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth. The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will show them his covenant.

Ps. 103. 11. As the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him. 17, 18.

Pr. 14. 26. In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge. The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

Is. 50. 10. Who is among you that feareth the Lord, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the Lord, and stay upon his God.

284. Is it safe and expedient to trust in God?

2 Sam. 22. 31. He is a buckler to all them that trust in him.

Ps. 2. 12. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

Ps. 18. 30. The word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.

Ps. 31. 19. O how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men. Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.

Expediency of trusting in God.

Ps. 32. 10. He that trusteth in the Lord, mercy shall compass him about.

Ps. 34. 22. The Lord redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.

Ps. 37. 3. Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. 39. The salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: he is their strength in the time of trouble. And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.

Ps. 118. 8. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.

Ps. 125. 1. They that trust in the Lord shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed.

Ps. 112. 6. The righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance. He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord. His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies.

Pr. 18. 10. The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

Pr. 28. 25. He that putteth his trust in the Lord shall be made fat.

Gen. 22. 10. And Abraham stretched forth his hand and took the knife to slay his son.

1 S. 17. 37. David said moreover, The Lord that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.

1 Ch. 21. 13. And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall now into the hand of the Lord; for very great are his mercies; and let me not fall into the hand of man.

Job 13. 15. Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him.

Dan. 3. 17. Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast

set up.

286. Are we required to praise God?

Ps. 92. 1. It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High. To show forth thy loving kindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night, Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound.

Ps. 95. 1. O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms. For the Lord is a great God, and a great king above all gods. Ps. 96. 1. O sing unto the Lord a new song: sing

Glorifying God.

unto the Lord, all the earth. Sing unto the Lord, bless his name; show forth his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people. For the Lord is great, and greatly to be praised.

Ps. 98. 4. Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise. Sing unto the Lord with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm.

Ps. 100. 3. We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

Ps. 107. 31. O that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

Ep. 5. 18. Be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Col. 3. 16.

Heb. 13. 15. By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to his name.

287. Are we required to glorify God?

1 Ch. 16. 28. Give unto the Lord, ye kindreds of the people, give unto the Lord glory and strength. Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. Ps. 29. 1.

Job 36. 24. Remember that thou magnify his work, which men behold.

Ps. 115. 1. Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truths' sake.
