house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. Now, when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter, and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized; and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

Examples of Good Men.

MOSES was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in word and deed. And the man Moses was very meek, above all the men that were on the earth; choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season.

JOSHUA, the son of Nun, was full of the spirit of wisdom. And Joshua said, As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.

SCRIPTURE READING LESSONS.

OF GOD.

Q. 1. What saith the prophet Isaiah of God as the only true God? Isaiah, xlv. 18, 19, 20, 21, 22.

A. Thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth, and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the Lord; and there is none else. I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the Lork speak righteousness, I declare things that are right. Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye. that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save. Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the Lord? and there is no God else beside me: a just God and a saviour; there is none beside me. Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.

Q. 2. Doth David acknowledge that there is no other God besides God Almighty? 2 Samuel, vii. 22.

A. Wherefore thou art great, O Lord God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any god beside thee. Q. 3. Who made man? Genesis, ii. 7.

A. And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Q. 4. Who created the heaven and earth, and all things therein? Genesis, i. 1, 16, 25.

A. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he

made the stars also. And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.-ii. 9. And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food..

Q. 5. What said the Levites concerning God the Creater of all things? Nehemiah, ix. 5, 6.

A. Blessed be thy glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise. Thou, even thou, art Lord alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host; the earth, and all things that are therein; the seas, and all that is therein; and thou preservest them all, and the host of heaven worshippeth thee.

Q. 6. Who doth the prophet Isaiah declare created the heavens and earth, and gave life unto man? Isaiah, xlii. 5, 8.

A. Thus saith God the Lord, he that created the heavens and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein: I am the Lord, that is my name, and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven. images.

Q. 7. How doth he set forth the greatness of God? Isaiah, xl. 10, 12, 15, 17, 22.

A. Behold, the Lord God will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him. Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with a span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance? Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing. All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing and vanity. It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in.

Q. 8. What saith the prophet Jeremiah concerning the true and living God? Jeremiah, x. 10, 12, 13.

A. But the Lord is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king; at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation. He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion. When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his

treasures.

Q. 9. How doth Moses set forth the holiness of God? Exodus, xv. 11.

A. Who is like unto thee, O Lord, who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? Q. 10. How did the apostle John say that the redeemed should glorify and extol God? Revelations, xv. 3, 4.

A. And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints. Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee.

Q. 11. What saith David of the righteousness and holiness of God? Psalm, xcviii. 9-cxlv. 17.

his works.

Q. 12. Can we hide ourselves from the sight of God? Jeremiah, xxiii. 23, 24.

A. Am I a God at hand, saith the Lord, and not a God afar off? Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord.

Q. 13. Doth God know our thoughts? Amos, iv. 13. A. He that formeth the mountains and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought, that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth; the Lord, the God of hosts, in his name.

Q. 14. What said David concerning God's knowing all things? Psalm cxxxix. 4.

A. There is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether.

Q. 15. Doth he say God is present every where? Psalm cxxxix. 7, 8, 9, 10.

A. Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

OF OUR BLESSED LORD AND SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST.

Q. 16. What did the prophet Isaiah say concerning the coming of Christ? Isaiah, ix. 6, 7.

A. Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace, there shall be no end.
