Q. 20. What saith the prophet Jeremiah of Christ, executing judgment and justice in the earth? Jeremiah, xxiii. 5, 6.

A. Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. In his days, Judah shall be saved, and israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, The Lord our Righteousness.

Q. 21. Did the prophet Isaiah say any thing concerning the miracles of Christ? Isaiah, "xxxv. 5, 6.

A. Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.

Q. 22. What did the angel of God tell the shepherds concerning Christ? Luke, ii. 10, 11.

A. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day, in the city of David, a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Q. 23. What account did Zechariah the prophet give of the justice and humility of Christ? Zechariah, ix. 9.

A. Rejoice greatly, Odaughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: Behold, thy king cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.

Q. 24. What doth the prophet Isaiah say of the sufferings of Christ? Isaiah, liii. 3, 5, 6, 7, 12.

A. He is despised and rejected of men'; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief. He was wounded for our transgressions; he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes we are healed. All we, like sheep, have gone astray: we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was op

pressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth. He was numbered with the transgressors: and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Q. 25. Why was our Saviour called Jesus? Matthew, i. 21.

A. Thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Q. 26. Did the apostle Paul say that Christ died for the sins of the whole world? 2 Corinthians, v. 14, 15.

A. For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

Q. 27. Was Christ a propitiation for the sins of the whole world? 1 John, ii. 1, 2.

A. We have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

Q. 28. Whose works did Christ come to destroy? 1 John, iii. 8.

A. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinpeth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

Q.29. What saith the apostle Peter of Christ, suffering for sins? 1 Peter, iii. 18, 22.

A. For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he night bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.

Q. 30. Should we take Christ for an example, and follow his steps? 1 Peter, ii. 21, 22, 23, 24.

A. For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should

follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

Q: 31. What is it that cleanseth us from all sin? 1 John, i. 7.

A. The blood of Jesus Christ his son, cleanseth us from all sin.

Q. 32. What answer did Christ give to those that John the Baptist sent unto him? Matthew, xi. 4, 5.

A. Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and show John again those things which ye do hear and see: The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

Q. 33. Did Christ cure any that were blind? Matthew, xx. 30, 32, 33, 34.

A. And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David. And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you? They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened. So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.

Q. 34. Did he cure any that were lame? Matthew, xv. 30, 31.

A. And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them, insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.

Q. 35. Did Christ cure the leprosy? Matthew, viii. 2, 3. A. And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean: and immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

Q. 36. Did he cure the deaf? Mark, vii. 32, 33, 34, 35. A. They bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him. And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue; and looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.

Q. 37. Did Christ raise the dead? Luke, vii. 12—15. A. Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, arise. And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak; and he delivered him to his mother.

Q. 38. Did Christ cure those that were lunatic? Matt. xvii. 14, 15, 18.

A. There came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying, Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is Junatic, and sore vexed: for oft-times he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water. And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour.

Q. 39. Did Christ do any other miracles? Matthew, ix. 35 Mark, vi. 56.

A. And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

And whithersoever he entered into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment; and as many as touched him were made whole.

Q. 40. Did not the Jews crucify Christ, notwithstanding he wrought so many great miracles among them? Matt. xxvii. 1, 2, 28, 29, 30, 35, 37.

A. When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death. And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate, the governor. And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail king of the Jews! And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head; and they crucified him; and set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

Q. 41. What saith the apostle Paul of Christ's rising from the dead? 1 Corinthians, xv. 3, 4, 5, 6.

A. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day; and that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: after that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom, the greater part remain unto this present.

Q. 42. Did Christ ascend into heaven after his resurrection? Luke, xxiv. 50, 51.

A. And he lifted up his hands and blessed them. And it came to pass while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.

Q. 43. How doth David say a young man may cleanse. his way? Psalm, cxix. 9, 10, 11, 33, 38..

A. Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to thy word. With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Teach me, O Lord, the way of thy statues, and I shall keep it unto the end. Stablish thy word unto thy servant, who is devoted to thy fear.
