Q. 44. Doth the Prophet Isaiah tell us, the word of God shall stand forever? Isaiah, xl. 6, 7, 8.
A. The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I ery? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field : The grass withereth, the flower fadeth ; * because the Spirit of the Lord bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass: The grass withereth, the flower fadeth : but the word of our God shall stand forever.
Q. 45. What said David concerning the word of God? Psalm, cxix. 105, 140.
A. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it.
Q. 46. Did Moses say that the word was near us? Deuteronomy, xxx. 14.
A. The word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayst do it.
Q. 47. What saith the apostle of the word of God? Rom. X. 6, 7, 8.
A. Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above :) or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach.

A. The word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts a
and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
Q.49. What saith the prophet Isaiah of that word, which tells us the way we ought to walk? Isaiah, xxx. 21.
A. Thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
Q. 50. Both the prophet Isaiah admonish us to hear the word, and be guided by its light.? Isaiah, i. 10, 17-20.
A. Hear the word of the Lord, ye rulers; and give ear unto the law of our God, ye people.
Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow. Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimsen, they shall be as wool. If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land. But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword : for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
Q. 51. Doth the apostle advise us to receive this word ? James, i. 21.
A. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the ingrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
Q. 52. Is Christ called the word of God? Revelations, xix. 11, 13,John, i. 1, 3, 4.
A. And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood : and his name is called The Word of God.

A. This is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest that they are wrought in God.
Q. 54. Where is it that God causeth his light to shine ? 2 Corinthians, iv. 6.
A. God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
Q. 55. What benefit have those that walk in the light? 1 John, i. 6, 7.
A. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanseth us from all sin.
Q. 56. Did Christ say he was the light of the world? John, viii. 12.
A. Then spake Jesus again unto them såying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
Q. 57. Did John the Baptist come to bear witness of Christ? John, i. 6, 7, 8, 9.
A. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might belteve. not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
Q. 58. What said Simeon of Christ? Luke, ii. 29–32.
A. Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: for mine eyes have seen thy salvation, which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; a light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
Q. 59. Is the manifestation of the Spirit given to every one to profit withal? 1 Corinthians, xii. 4, 7.
A. There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
Q. 60. What saith the prophet Joel of the out-pouring of God's Spirit? Joel, ii. 28, 29.
A. And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy. And also upon the servants and upon the håndmaids in those days will 'I pour out my Spirit.
Q. 61. Are the things of God foolishness unto the natural man? 1 Corinthians, ii, 11, 14.
A. What man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of Gol: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Q. 62. Are those the sons of God, who are led and guided by his Spirit? Romans, viii. 9, 14.
A. If any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

A. Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith ; prove your ownselves. Know ye not your ownselves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates ?
Q. 64. Did Christ tell his disciples that the Spirit of truth should guide them into all truth? John xvi. 12, 13.
A. I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth.

A. The grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.

A. And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.

A. The hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth:
for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Q. 68. What doth the apostle Paul say of the worship of God? Acts, xvii. 24, 25, 26, 27, 28.
A God that made the world, and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all, life and breath, and all things; and hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; that they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us. A. To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the Lord : When ye come to appear before me, who hath required this at your hand to tread my courts ? Bring no more vain oblations : incense is an abo. mination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, and calling of assemblies I cannot away with: it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting.

A. The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord; but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
Q. 72. What saith the prophet Isaiah of those who draw near to God with their mouth, and honour him with their lips, when their hearts are far from him? Isaiah, xxix. 13, 14.
A. Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and
