NOTICE FOR LOCAL EXAMINATIONS.

1. The Examination will be holden this year at Oxford, and also at the following places: Barnsley, Bath, Bedford, Birmingham, Boston, Brighton, Bristol, Cheltenham, Chipping Campden, Crystal Palace, Downside, Harrogate, Leeds, Leicester, Lincoln, Liverpool, London, Lytham, Manchester, Norwich, Nottingham, Preston, Ramsgate, Reigate, Salisbury, Southampton, Streatham Hill, Swansea, Taunton, Thame, Truro, Warwick, Watford and West Buckland.

2. The Examination will commence in each place on Monday the 5th of June at Eleven o'clock A.M.

3. The printed Forms which Candidates are to fill up will be ready by March the 1st. Candidates who wish to be examined at Oxford may then obtain them from G. E. BAKER, Esq., Clarendon Buildings, Oxford. Candidates who wish to be examined at any of the other places above mentioned may obtain them from the Local Secretary for the place.

4. These Forms must be obtained on or before the 8th of April, and must be returned, duly filled up, to the respective Secretaries on or before Saturday the 15th of April. No Candidate's name will be received at any place after that day.

5. The Fees, namely £1 10s. for each Senior Candidate, £1 for each Junior with the Local Fee (if any), must be paid on or before Saturday the 15th of April. The Fees if sent by Post, may be paid in coin, or by Cheque, Post Office Order, or Postal Note, but not in stamps. No Fee can be returned under any circumstances.

GENERAL NOTICE TO CANDIDATES.

I. The Examination will commence on Monday the 5th of June, at Eleven o'clock A.M. A Time Table, shewing the hours and the subjects of Examination each day, will be issued to every Candidate. The same Paper will contain some Directions and Cautions, which Candidates are specially desired to observe.

II. Paper and other writing materials will be provided for the Candidates; but they are expected to bring their own pens.

III. Candidates in Mathematics, &c., will be allowed to bring in the usual Mathematical Drawing Instruments; subject however to any limitation which the Examiners may think fit. The usual symbols and abbreviations may be employed in writing Mathematical papers.

IV. Candidates in Drawing should provide themselves with a Drawing Board measuring about 23 inches by 16, eight Drawing pins, and all other necessary materials, except paper, which will be supplied by the University. No instruments of any kind will be allowed, except for the Exercise in Perspective.

V. Candidates in Chemistry will receive a Notice, specially addressed to them, containing a list of the Apparatus and of the Re-agents which they are to bring to the Practical Examination.

VI. Candidates in Physiology should bring with them a sharp penknife, two needles mounted in handles, and a magnifying glass.

VII. Senior Candidates who shew sufficient merit in translations from Latin and Greek authors, in Grammar, in Latin Prose Composition, and in Mathematics, to be excused from Responsions, may receive a Certificate from the Delegates to that effect.

VIII. The Royal Geographical Society offers two Medals, one of silver and one of bronze, to the two Senior Candidates (boys or girls) who shall give the best answers in Geography, provided that their papers are of sufficient merit.

IX. Senior Girls. One Scholarship, value Thirty Guineas a year, entitling the holder to free instruction at Bedford College, London, for two years from Michaelmas, 1882, is offered by the Trustees of Mrs. Reid's Fund for the Higher Education of Women to the Candidate who shall obtain the highest place in the First or Second Division.

X. Junior Girls. A Scholarship of £50 in the Sandwell Girls' School is offered to the Candidate who shall obtain the highest place in the First Division, and four Scholarships of £21 each are offered to the Candidates who shall most distinguish themselves in the Rudiments of Faith and Religion, in English, in Languages, and in Mathematics, respectively; these various Scholarships being held by separate Candidates.

NOTICE TO CANDIDATES IN CHEMISTRY.

For the practical Examination each Candidate is required to provide himself with the necessary re-agents and apparatus.

The following lists, which contain all that is needful according to the usual course of analysis, are intended as a guide to Candidates in making this provision. But each one is at liberty to furnish himself for the Examination with such materials as he has been accustomed to employ.

A dozen test-tubes, about 6 inches long by § inch diameter.
Another dozen test-tubes, about 6 inches long by inch

diameter.

A packet of cut filters, about 3 inches diameter.

A stand for test-tubes, to hold 24 tubes.
