and keep him in perpetual peace and safety; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For those in Great Danger through
Sickness.

FATHER of mercies, and God of all comfort, our only help in time of need; we fly unto Thee for succour in behalf of Thy sick servant(s) (here mention his name or their names) lying under Thy hand in great weakness of body. Look graciously upon him (or them), O Lord; and the more the outward man decayeth, strengthen him, we beseech Thee, so much the more continually with Thy grace and Holy Spirit in the inner man. Give him unfeigned repentance for all the errors of his life past, and steadfast faith in Thy Son Jesus; that his sins may be done away by Thy mercy, and his pardon sealed in heaven, before he go hence and be no more seen. Fit and prepare him, we beseech Thee, against the hour of death, that after his departure hence in peace, and in Thy favour, his soul may be received into Thine everlasting kingdom; through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ, Thine only Son, our Lord and Saviour. Amen.

For Absent Friends.

LORD, we beseech Thee, mercifully receive our prayers in behalf of our relations and friends at home and abroad. In all their dangers and necessities stretch forth Thy right hand to help and defend them. Grant to them pardon and peace that they may be cleansed from all their sins, and serve Thee with a quiet mind; and pour into their hearts such love toward Thee, that loving Thee above all things they may obtain Thy promises, which exceed all that we can desire; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

IN

After a Death on Board.

N the midst of life we are in death : of whom may we seek for succour, but of Thee, O Lord, who for our sins art justly displeased? We meekly beseech Thee, O Father, to raise us from the death of sin unto the life of righteousness; that, when we shall depart this life, we may rest in Him, as our hope is this our brother doth : and that at the general Resurrection in the last day we may be found acceptable in Thy sight; through Jesus Christ our Mediator and Redeemer. Amen.

Form of Supplication,

TO BE USED IN TIME OF GREAT DANGER.

To be said by the Reader and Congregation, either alternately or together, all kneeling.

Reader. Let us pray.

O Lord, save Thy servants;
That put their Trust in Thee.
Send unto them help from above,
And evermore mightily defend them.
Help us, O God our Saviour,

And for the glory of Thy Name deliver us; be merciful to us sinners for Thy Name's sake.

O Lord, hear our prayer,

And let our cry come unto Thee.

ALMIGHTY God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Maker of all things, Judge of all men; We acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness, Which we, from time to time, most grievously have committed, By thought, word, and deed, against Thy Divine Majesty, provoking most justly Thy wrath and indignation against us. We do earn

estly repent, And are heartily sorry for these our misdoings; The remembrance of them is grievous unto us; the burden of them is intolerable. Have mercy upon us, Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; For Thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ's sake, Forgive us all that is past; and grant that we may ever hereafter serve and please thee in newness of life, To the honour and glory of Thy Name; Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Reader.

LORD, we beseech Thee, mercifully hear our prayers, and spare all those who confess their sins unto Thee; that they, whose consciences by sin are accused, by Thy merciful pardon may be absolved; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

OUR

Reader and Congregation.

UR Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil. Amen.

Reader.

MOST powerful and glorious Lord God* [at whose command the winds blow, and lift up the waves of the sea, and who stillest the rage thereof;] We Thy creatures, but miserable sinners, do in this our great distress cry unto Thee for help: Save, Lord, or else we perish. We confess, when we have been safe, and seen all things quiet about us, we have forgotten Thee our God, and refused to hearken to the still voice of Thy word, and to obey Thy commandments. But now we see how terrible Thou art in all Thy works of wonder; the great God to be feared above all: And therefore we adore Thy Divine Majesty, acknowledging Thy power, and imploring Thy goodness. Help, Lord, and save us for Thy mercy's sake, in Jesus Christ Thy Son, our Lord. Amen.

O MOST glorious and gracious Lord God, Who dwellest in heaven, but beholdest all things below; Look down, we beseech Thee, and hear us calling out of the depth of misery, and out of the jaws of this death, which is ready now to swallow

*These words, and others in the next Prayer, are bracketed, to suggest their omission, when not applicable.
