THE Directors of the Union have made arrangements for maintaining two separate Singing Classes during the ensuing Six Months, commencing on 3rd September. (Opening night free.)

The first or Elementary Section will meet at 7.30 p.m., every Monday, in the Lesser Hall of the CHRISTIAN INSTITUTE, Bothwell Street. The second Class will meet at 8.35 on the same Evening, as above. The work will more advanced than in the first. All who may enter it will be expected to have passed the Elementary Certificate of the Sol-fa College. Part Songs, Glees, and Choruses will be studied, in order to study Taste and Expression. Rhythms, Transition, and the Minor Mode will receive attention from the outset; and the whole Course of Six Months will be so arranged as to enable those who attend to become competent to conduct the Service of Praise in Sabbath School and other meetings.

N.B.-It is also designed that a Music Teachers' or Precentors' Class shall be held later on, similar to that so successfully carried on during the last Spring. Particulars will be announced later on.

THE programme for these important meetings has just been issued by the Committee of the Paisley Union. It is accompanied with a very cordial invitation for the appointment of delegates. We earnestly trust there will be a hearty response from every important town in Scotland. It is not necessary that delegates be the accredited representatives of formally constituted Sabbath School Unions. There are many towns that have not such Unions, and it is not desirable to restrict the attendance to them. The Convention does not pretend to have any legislative authority, but when the conferences are well attended, when the subjects discussed are of a practical description, and when they are dealt with in a pointed manner by gentlemen of experience and enthusiasm, the influence for good of such a Convention cannot be over-estimated. The meetings are invariably of a most enjoyable nature; and, while those in attendance receive the first benefit, they are certain to carry away with them valuable information, and new resolutions to be more determined and faithful in the prosecution of this department of Christian work. While formal commissions or certificates of appointment are not required from delegates, it is yet necessary that the Paisley Committee be supplied with the names and addresses of all who propose to be present from a distance, as they have kindly arranged to provide for the accommodation of visitors on the Thursday and Friday evenings of the Convention; and intimation should be sent as to whether lodgings will be required for one or both evenings. Communications should be addressed to Allan Coats, Esq., Hayfield, Castlehead, Paisley.
