CHARACTERISTIC AND LUMINOUS IDEA WHICH
LIES AT THE FOUNDATION OF ALL OUR SA-
VIOUR'S PRACTICAL VIEWS.

MATT. iv. 17. From that time Jesus began to
preach, and to say, Repent-for the kingdom
of Heaven is at hand.

WHEN Our Saviour first presented himself to the no-
tice of mankind, he spoke of himself as commission-
ed to bring in "the kingdom of Heaven." Nor was
this reference to a kingdom,—and that "the king-
dom of Heaven” as destined to be established by his
ministry and that of his successors
an accidental or occasional idea which presented it-
self to his mind only at the opening of his labours,
