WHEN thou goest out to battle against

19 When thou shalt besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by forcing an axe against them: for thou mayest eat of them, and thou shalt not cut them down (for the tree of the field is man's life) to employ them in the siege:

20 Only the trees which thou knowest that from before they be not trees for meat, thou shalt de stroy and cut them down; and thou shalt build bulwarks against the city that maketh war with thee, until † it be subdued.

CHAPTER XXIV.

WHEN a man hath taken a wife, and

5 When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any business: but he shall be free at home one year, and shall & cheer up his wife which he hath taken.

AND it shall be, when thou art come in unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and possessest it, and dwellest therein; 2 That thou shalt take of the first of all the fruit of the earth, which thou shalt bring of thy land that the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt put it in a basket, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God 6 ch. 12. 5. shall choose to place his name there.
