NEW-YEAR.

We are happy to greet our readers at the commencement of another year, with the REPOSITORY on better paper, and in the best of type. And our purpose is to devote so much of our time to its interests, as may be requisite to secure the contributions of the best Biblical and Literary Scholars of our country, and also to make the typographical execution such as it should be.

During the past year, the changes in the relations of the work have been frequent; and the present editor has been occasionally absent, by necessity, at times when his presence was needful. This will account for errors which have occurred too frequently, and for which we owe an apology to some of our highly respected correspondents. Mistakes will occur, notwithstanding the utmost care; but our hope is, that in fu ture, they will be rare.

It is unnecessary to say, that the Repository occupies a position held by no other quarterly, and that its reputation in Great Britain is of the highest order. We have very recently received assurance of confidence in it from that quarter, and an expression of opinion highly commendatory. The contributors to its pages are, many of them, amongst the first names in our land-names that would do honor to any country in respect to scholarship. "It is the organ of no party. Its literature, as well as its theology, is designed to be distinctively Biblical and Christian." We hope to present, in the course of the year, some important articles from a jurist, on deeply interesting topics.

With these prefatory remarks, we leave our readers to enter on the duties and trials of a new year. May God grant to us and them much of that wisdom, which cometh from above, that when our toil on earth shall have ceased, we may meet around the throne of the Lamb to attune our golden harps eternally to his praise.
