IV. As a state of SILENCE.

Agreeably to these representations of our state in Death, Revelation informs us,

I. That we shall not awake, or be made alive till the Refurrection. Pf. xvii. 15. — I shall be fatisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness. Joh. vi.39. This is the Father's will — that of all which he hath given me, I fhould lofe nothing, but should raise it up again at the last Day. xi. 24,25,26. Martha faith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the Refurrection at the last Day. Jefus faid unto her, I am the Refurrection and the Life; he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet fhall he live; and whofoever liveth and believeth in me, fhall never die. [whofoever liveth, or is alive at that day. Comp. 1The iv.15.] This we fay unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord, shall not prevent them which are afleep. And 1 Cor. xv. 51, 52.we shall not all fleep, but we shall all be changed, in a Moment, in the twinkling of an Eye at the last Trump. Rom. iv. 17. he believedGod, who quickeneth the Dead, and calleth those things which be not, as though they were.

II. That the wicked shall not be severed from the righteous 'till the Refurrection, the End of the world, the Coming or Day of Chrift, the Day of the Lord, THE Day, THAT Day, &c. Matt.xiii.30. Let both grow together until the harvest: and in Aa3

As the tares are gathered, and burnt in the fire; fo fhall it be in the end of this world. -41. He shall fend his Angels with a great found of a trumpet, and they fhall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. xxv. 31, 32. When the fon of man fhall come in his glory-before him shall be gathered all nations; and he fhall feparate them one from another, as a fhepherd divideth his sheep from the goats. Add Mark xiii, 26,27.

III. We are upon trial, or in a state of probation, 'till the Refurrection, or the Day of Christ. 1 Cor. i. 8. in Sect. xi. Phil. i. 10. That ye may be fincere, and without offence 'till the day of Chrift. 1Theff. v. 23.-I pray God your whole spirit, and foul, and body be preferved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jefus Chrift. 1 Tim. vi. 14. That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable until the appearance of our Lord Jefus Chrift. Tit. ii. 12, 13.-denying ungodliness and worldly lufts, we should live foberly, righteoufly, and godly in this prefent world; looking for that bleffed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God, and our Saviour Jefus Chrift. Heb. x. 35, 36, 37. Caft not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of re

ward. For ye have need of patience; that after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. For yet a little while, and he that fhall come, will come, and will not tarry. Ja.i.12. Bleffed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he fhall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. v.7. Be patient, therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. 1Pet.i.7. That the trial of your faith being much more precious than of gold that perifheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praife, and honour,and glory,at the appearing of Jefus Chrift.13.-Gird up the loins of your mind,be fober,and hope to the end, for the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jefus Chrift. 2 Pet. iii. 11, 12. Looking for, and hafting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire fhall be diffolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat. 14. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for fuch things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without fpot, and blameless. Rev. ii. 25. that which ye have already, hold fast 'till I come.

IV. Our Chriftian Courfe, and improvements in piety in this world terminate in the Refurrection, the Coming, or Day of our Lord.

Phil. i. 6. Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you, will perform it until the day of Jefus Chrift. iii. 10,11. That I may know him, and the power of his Resurrection, and the fellowship of his suffering, being made conformable unto his death: if by any means I might attain unto the Refurrection A a 4
