2 Cor. v, 10, 11. For we must all appear before the F1!dgment-feat of Christ, that every one may receive the things done in his Body, according to that he hath done, wherher it be good or bad. Knowing therefore the Terror of the Loril, we perswade Men.
What hath been, and is to be the Fate of all Tyrants and
Oppreffors, and the Vanity of all their Pomp and
by the Prophets Ifaiah and Ezekiel. Isai. xiv. 4. Thou shalt take up this Proverb against the King of Babylon, and say, How hath the Oppreffor ceased ! the golden City ceased !
5 The Lord hath broken the Staff of the Wicked, and the Sceptre of the RULERS.
6 He who smote the People in Wrath, with a continual Stroke; he-that ruled the Nations in Anger, is persecuted, and none hindreth.
7. The whole Earth is at reft, and is quiet : they break forth into Singing :
8 Yea, the Fir-Trees' rejoice at thee, and the Cedars of Lebanoni, saying, Since thou art laid down, no Feller is come up against us.
9 Hell from beneath is moved for thee, to meet thee at thy coming; it stirreth up the Dead for thee, even all the Chief ones of the Earth : it hath raised
from their Thrones all the Kingdoms of the Nations :
10 All they shall fpcak, and say unto thee, Art thou also become WEAK as we? Are thou become like unto us?
11 Thy Pomp is brought down to the Grave, and the Noise of thy Viols : The Worm is spread under thee, and the Worms cover thee.
12 How art thou fallen from Heaven, O Lucifer, Son of the Morning! How art thou cut down to the Ground, which didst weaken the Nations ?
1; For thou hast said in thy Heart, I will ascend into Heaven ; I will exalt my Throne above the Stars of God : I will fit also upon the Mount of the Congregation, in the Sides of the North.
14 I will afcend above the Heights of the Clouds, I will be like the Most High.
15 Yet thou sbalt be brought down to Hell, to the Sides of thc Pit.
16 They that fee thee, shall narrowly look upon thee and confider thee, saying, Is this the Man that made the Earth to tremble, that did shake Kingdoms ?
17 That made the World as a Wilderness, and destroyed the Cities thereof; that opened not the House of his Prifoners ?
18 All the Kings of the Nations, even all of them lie in Glory, every one in his own House.
19 But thou art cast out of thy Grave, like an abominable Branch, and as the Raiment of those that are flain, thrust through with a Sword, that go down to the Stones of the Pit, as a Carcase trodden under Feet.
20 Thou shalt not be joined with them in Burial, because thou haft destroyed thy Land, and Nain thy People: the Seed of evil Doers shall never be renowned.
21 Prepare Slaughter for his Children, for the INIQUITY of their Fathers; that they do not rise nor possess the Land, nor fill the face of the World with Cities.
22 For I will rise up against them, faith the Lord of Hosts, and cut off from Babylon the Name and Remnant, and Son and Nephew, faith the Lord.
23 I will also make it a Poffeflion for the Bittern, and Pools of Water ; and I will sweep it with the Befom of Destruction, saith the Lord of Holts.
24 The Lord of Hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, fo fhall it come to pass ; and as I have purposed, so thall it stand :
25 That I will break the Asyrian in my Land, and upon my Mountains tread him under foot : Then shall his Yoke depart from off them, and his Burden depart from off their Shoulders.
26 This is the Purpose that is purposed upon the whole Earth : and this is the Hand that is stretched out upon all the Nations.
27 For the Lord of Hofts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it? and his Hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back ?
Ezek. xxx11. 17. The Word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
18 Son of Man, wail for the Multitude of Egypt, and cait them down; even her, and the Daughters of the famous Nations, unto the nether Parts of the Earth, with them that go down to the Pit.
19 Whom dost thou pass in Beauty? Go down, and be thou laid with the Uncircumcised.
20 They shall fall in the midst of them that are Nain by the Sword, she is delivered to the Sword : Draw her, and all her Multitudes.
21 The Strong among the Mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of Hell, with them that help him: They are gone down, they lie uncircumcised, flain by the Sword.
22 Apur is there, and all her Company. 24 There is Elam, and all her Multitude.
26 There is Mesech, and Tubal, and all her Multitude: Her Graves are round about him.
27 And they shall not lie with the Mighty that are fallen of the Uncircumcised, which are gone down to Hell with their Weapons of War: And they have laid their Swords under their Heads, but their Inieuities shall be upon their Bones; though they were the Terror of the Mighty in the Land of the Living.
30 There be the Princes of the North all of them, and all the Sidonians, which are gone down with the Slain; with their Terror they are ashamed of their Might, and bear their Shame with them that go down to the Pit. What is to be the Fate of the ANTICHRISTIAN Baby
lon, is described in
Rev. xvIII. I. And I saw an Angel come down from Heaven, having great Power; and the Earth was lightned with his Glory :
2 And he cried mightily with a strong Voice, saying, Babylon the Great is fallen, is fallen ; and is become the Habitation of Devils, and the hold of every foul Spirit ; and a Cage of every unclean and hateful Bird.
3 For all Nations have drunk of the Wine of the Wrath of her Fornication; and the Kings of the Earth have committed Fornication with her; and the Merchants of the Earth are waxed rich, through the Abundance of her Delicacies.
4 And I heard another Voice from Heaven, saying, Come out of her my People, that ye be not Partakers of her Sins, and that ye receive not of her PLAGUES.
5 For her Sins have reached unto Heaven; and God hath remembred her Iniquities.
, How much she hath glorified herfelf, and lived deliciously ; so much TORMENT and Sorrow give her: For the faith in her Heart, I fit a Queen, and am no Widow, and shall see no Sorrow.
8 Therefore shall her Plagues come in one Day, DEATH, and MOURNING, and FAMINE ; and the shall be utterly burnt with Fire: For strong is the Lord God, who judgeth her,
And the Kings of the Earth, who have committed Pornication, and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the Smoke of her Burning;
10 Standing afar off for the Fear of her Torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great City Babylon, that mighty City, for in one Hour is thy Judgment come.
11 And the Merchants of the Earth shall weep and mourn over her ; for no Man buyeth her Merchandise any more.
12 The Merchandise of Gold and Silver, &c. and Souls of Men;
14 And the Fruits that thy Soul lufted after, are departed from thee; and all things which were dainty and goodly, are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all.
15 The Merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the Fear of her Torment, weeping and wailing,
16 And saying, Alas, alas, that great City, that was cloathed in fine Linen, and Purple, and Scarlet; and decked with Gold, and precious Stones, and Pearls :
17 For in one Hour is so great Riches come to nought. And every Ship-mafter, and all the Company in Ships, and Sailers, and as many as Trade by Sea, stood afar off,
18 And cried, when they saw the Smoke of her burning, saying, What City is like unto this great City?
19 And they caft Dust on their Heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great City, wherein were made rich all that had Ships in the Sea, by reason of her Coftliness; for in one Hour is she made defolate.
20 Rejoice over her thou Heaven, and ye holy Apostles, and Prophets, for God hath avenged you on her.
21 And a mighty Angel took up a Stone like a great Milftone, and cast into the Sea, saying, Thus with Vio
lence shall that great City Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.
22 And the Voice of Harpers and Musicians, and of Pipers and Trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee: And no Craftsman, of whatsoever Craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the Sound of a Milftone shall be heard no more at all in thee;
23 And the Light of a Candle shall shine no more at all in thee ; and the Voice of the Bridegroom and of the Bride shall be heard no more at all in thee; for thy Merchants were the great Men of the Earth : For by thy Sorceries were all Nations deceived.
24 And in her was found the Blood of the Prophets, and of Saints, and of all that were Nain upon the Earth,
Note, The taking of Babylon by the Medes, and the
Destruction of its fumptuous Palaces, was foretold by
by Nebuchadnezzar. But the total Desolation that is foretold by this Prophet,
was not accomplished till the time of the Saracenz Empire; which was above 1200 Years after the Prediétion.
