(1) Some have thought, that by the seven Spirits, is meant the Holy Ghost, thus reprefented in respect of his feven fold, that is, his manifold Graces communicated to his Church; but a more probable Opinion is that of Mr. Joseph Mede, (which is likewise confirmed by the References) in his Discourse on Zach. 4. 10. who understands by them the seven prircipal Angels, or Archangels, who minister before the Throne of God, and are the prime Ministers of his Providence; fome of whose Names are recorded in the holy Scriptures; as Michael, Jude Ver. 9. and Gabriel, Luk. 1. 19.

We may observe, that St. John does not pray for Grace and Peace to the Angels, but from them. God is the Author and giver ; the Angels are the Instruments, whose Ministry God thinks fit to make use of; and Jesus Christ is the Mediator, through whom every Blessing is de rived to us.

live, (1) I cannot but observe, that our Saviour does not say, before Abram ham was, I was; but before Abraham was, I AM: which is the proper Name of God; whereby is signified the eternal Duration and Permanenсу of his Being: In which Sense he is said by the Apostle to the Hebrews, Chap. 13. 8. to be the same Yesterday, to Day, and for ever ; And fo likewise he describes him felf in St. John's Vision, I am Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty : And that this is spoken of the Son, you may fee in the same Chapter, Ver. 17. where he says of himself, I am the first and the last: And so likewise he describes himself again, Rev. 22. 13. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last And that we may not doubt who it is that thus describes his own Eternity, he continuing, Rev. 22. 16. still to speak in the same Person, says, 1 Jesus have Sent mine Angel, &c. After this I shall only observe, that all these Expressions are the common Description which the Scripture gives of the Eternity of God, whose Being is commensurate to all the several refpe&s of Duration, past, present, and to come : Besides, that the Attribute of Almighty is also a Part of this Description, which is so peculiar a Property of God, I mean of Him who is God by Nature, that the Scripture never gives it to any other.
