OR as touching the miniftring to the faints, it is fuperfluous for me to write to you. 2. For I know the forwardness of your mind, for which I boaft of you to them of Macedonia, that Achaia was ready a year ago; and your zeal hath provoked very many. 3. Yet have I fent the brethren, left our boafting of you fhould be in vain in this behalf; that, as I faid, ye may be ready: 4. Left haply if they of Macedonia come with me, and find you unprepared, we (that we fay not you) fhould be afhamed in this fame confident boafting. 5. Therefore I thought it neceffary to exhort the brethren, that they would go before unto you, and up beforehand your bounty [Gr. bleffing] * whereof ye had notice before [Or, which hath been so much spoken of before], that the fame might be ready as a matter of bounty, and not as of covetoufness. 6. But this, I fay, He which foweth fparingly, fhall reap alfo fparingly: and he which & foweth bountifully, fhall reap alfo bountifully. 7. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, fo let him give; not grudgingly, or of neceffity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. 8. And God is able to make all grace abound towards you; that ye always having all fufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: 9. (1) The Apoftle cannot be fuppofed here to approve of the Condu& the Corinthians, fhould they have received one who had preached anoer Gofpel; because, Gal. 1. 8. he pronounces an Anathema against himlf, and even an Angel from Heaven, who fhould do fo. But his Meanng may be, If any fhould preach the fame Gofpel in a more excellent manner; or, if by the Miniftry of another they fhould receive the Gifts the Spirit in greater Abundance than they had by him, then they might well bear with him. Or, if by another Gofpel we understand a ofpel different from, and contrary to that he had preached, then the Words feem to be fpoken ironically, and to imply that they were capable receiving fuch an one; not that the Apoftle approved their doing fo, being manifeft from the Scope and Design of the Place, that he declares is abhorrence of fuch an Action.
