Here rest, my weary heart!
Here cleave, my warmest love!
Till the communion be complete
In nobler scenes above.

CHRISTIAN HOPE AND SECURITY.

129.

C. M.

I'M not ashamed to own my Lord,
Nor to defend his cause,
Maintain the honour of his word,
The glory of his cross

Jesus, my Lord, I know his name!
His name is all my trust;
Nor will he put my soul to shame,
Nor let my hope be lost.

Firm as his throne his promise stands;

And he can well secure

What I've committed to his hands,
Till the decisive hour.

Then will he own my worthless name
Before his Father's face;

And in the new Jerusalem,

Appoint my soul a place.

BLESS'D be the everlasting God,
The Father of our Lord;

Be his abundant mercy praised,
His majesty adored.

F

From the dark chambers of the grave,
He raised our Saviour up;
And hath begotten us again
Unto a lively hope.

That though the sons of Adam's race

Shall all return to dust;
Yet as the second Adam rose,
So we his members must.

Th' inheritance reserved in heaven,
For us against that day,
Is uncorrupt and undefiled,
And fadeth not away.

We by the power of God are kept,
Through faith, until he come;
And walk as pilgrim's do on earth,
Till Christ shall call us home.

WHY should I think of pain or woe,
Or feel at death dismay;

I've Canaan's goodly land in view,
The realm of endless day,

Jerusalem, my happy home;

(A name so dear to me!) My life and labors soon shall close In peace, and rest in thee.

Yea, soon, thou city of my God,

Shall I thy courts ascend, Where congregations ne'er break up, And meetings never end.

To join apostles, martyrs, saints,
Who 'round my Saviour stand.
Jesus! my ransomed spirit pants
To be at thy right hand!

WE'LL greatly glory in the Lord,
Who makes our cause his own;
The hope that rests upon his word
Can ne'er be overthrown.

Though many foes beset our road,
And feeble is each arm,

Our life is hid with Christ in God,
Beyond the reach of harm.

Weak as we are we shall not faint;
Or, fainting, shall not die;
Jesus, the strength of every saint,
Will aid us from on high.

As surely as he overcame,

And triumphed o'er the foe; So surely all who love his name Shall triumph in him too. 133.

TO God the only wise,

Our Saviour and our King,

With all the saints below the skies
We humble praises bring.

"Tis his almighty love,

His counsel and his care,

Preserve us safe from sin and death,

And every hurtful snare.

He will present our souls, Unblemished and complete, Before the glory of his face, With joys divinely great.

Then all the chosen seed

Shall meet around the throne; There stand, a people saved by grace, And wear the promised crown. 134.

HIGH on his Father's royal seat,

The Saviour sits divinely great;
Through all successive ages, he

The same has been, the same shall be.
The same his power, his flock to guard;
The same his bounty, to reward;
The same his faithfulness and love,
As when on earth, so now above.
Nature may change, and sink, and die,
But Christ will raise his people high;
And place them near his heavenly throne,
In glory changeless as his own.

THE Lord has promised good to me,
His word my hope secures;

He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

And when my heart and flesh shall fail,

And mortal life shall cease,

I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But Christ, who is my hope below,
Will there be ever mine.

WE gladly all our harps

Down from the willows take; And loud in praise of love divine, Bid every string awake.

His grace

shall to the end

Still stronger, brighter shine;

Nor present things, nor things to come,
Shall change his love divine.

The glorious time will come,
When Jesus we shall see;

And know Him even as we are known,
To all eternity.

O! holy, holy Lord!

Salvation all is thine:

Righteous art thou in all thy ways,
And all thy works divine.

[blocks in formation]

'TIS Jesus the Lord we adore;

Our faithful, unchangeable friend;
Whose love is as large as his power,
And neither knows measure nor end.
Tis Jesus, the First and the Last,
Whose spirit shall guide us safe home;

We praise him for all that is past,
We trust him for all that's to come.
