Honour and majesty are laid
On him who scorn and hatred bore;
For ever blessed he is made,

And heaven and earth his name adore.
Eternal glory to the Lamb,

Who by himself hath purged our sin; Let all his saints his grace proclaim, Till with a shout he comes again.

ALL hail! the power of Jesus' name, Let angels prostrate fall:

Bring forth the royal diadem,

And crown him Lord of all.

Believing seed of Israel's race,-
A remnant weak and small,-
Hail him who saves you by his grace,
And crown him Lord of all.

Gentile believers, ne'er forget

The wormwood and the gall: Come, spread the trophies at his feet, And crown him Lord of all.

We hope, among the ransomed throng, At Jesus' feet to fall;

To join the everlasting song,

And crown him Lord of all.

WE may sing, to Christ are given,
Power and glory now on high;

All th' angelic host of heaven
Fall before his majesty.

We may glory in our King;
Truth and mercy in him meet ;-
Unto him our offerings bring,
Worshipping before his feet.
We may bow to him alone;
Christ a righteous sceptre sways;
Reigning on his Father's throne,
Ev'n to everlasting days.

DEVOTEDNESS TO JESUS.

274.

C. M.

AS, by the light of opening day,
The stars are all concealed;
So, earthly pleasures die away,
When heavenly are revealed.
No charms for me have worldly joys;
I choose the better part;

My Saviour's love, and name, and voice,
Have fixed my wandering heart.

Hence, Lord, I would be wholly thine,

And wholly live to thee;

"Tis grace indeed in thee to own

A sinful worm like me!

LORD, to the covenant of thy word,
I set my humble name;

I seal th' engagement of my Lord,
And so present my claim.

I call that legacy my own,

Which Jesus did bequeath;

'Twas purchased with his dying groan; 'Twas ratified in death.

Thy light, O Lord, and pardoning grace,
And glory shall be mine;

My life and soul, my heart and flesh,
And all my powers be thine.

LORD, when our thoughts delighted rove
Amid the wonders of thy love;

The prospect cheers each drooping heart,
And bids intruding fears depart.
Thy wisdom, goodness, power, and care,
We freely, fully, daily share;
And, rich in promises, believe
That thou wilt to the utmost save.
Be all our hearts, and all our days,
Devoted to our Saviour's praise,
And our whole life's obedience prove,
How much we owe, how much we love.

WHEN Jesus dwelt in mortal clay,

What works he did from day to day, In miracles of power and grace, To spread salvation through our race. Teach us, O Lord! to keep in view Thy pattern, and thy steps pursue : Let love, in acts of kindness done, Be witnessed by each rolling sun. Thus, he who marks, from day to day, In gen'rous acts his christian way;

Treads the same path the Saviour trod,
The path to glory and to God.

BAPTIZED into our Saviour's death,

Our souls to sin must die;
With Christ our Lord we live anew,
With Christ ascend on high.

There, by his Father's side, he sits,
Enthroned divinely fair!

Yet owns himself our brother still,
And our forerunner there.

We would from earthly trifles rise
On wings of faith and love :
Above, our living treasure lies,
Then be our hearts above.

MESSIAH, Saviour, great High Priest,
My heart delights to worship thee;
Since, by thy faithful word I know,
Thou wert made man to die for me.
Whether the world goes right or wrong,
Whate'er my circumstances be;

My Lord to me is still the same,
Who loved, and lived, and died, for me.
For this thy goodness, gracious Lord,
I wholly yield my heart to thee;
And henceforth, at the least, would live
To thee, since thou hast died for me.

CHRIST, like an uncorrupted seed,
Abides and reigns within;

Immortal principles forbid

The sons of God to sin.
Not in the terrors of a slave,
Do we perform his will;

But with the noblest powers we have,
His sweet commands fulfil.

We find access at every hour,
To God within the veil ;

Thence we derive a renewing power,
And joys that never fail.

Heaven is our home; O glorious state
Of overflowing grace!

To dwell so near our Father's seat;
To see the Saviour's face!

[blocks in formation]

IT is the Lord!-enthroned in light:
His claims are all divine;
He has an undisputed right

To give, to take of mine.

Hence, then, my anxious doubts and fears
Shall yield to his control:
His tender mercies shall illume
The midnight of my soul.

Yea, I may close my eyes in death,
Free from distracting care;

For death is life, the grave is rest,
If Christ be with me there.
