Honour and majesty are laid And heaven and earth his name adore. Who by himself hath purged our sin; Let all his saints his grace proclaim, Till with a shout he comes again. LORD, when our thoughts delighted rove The prospect cheers each drooping heart, WHEN Jesus dwelt in mortal clay, What works he did from day to day, In miracles of power and grace, To spread salvation through our race. Teach us, O Lord! to keep in view Thy pattern, and thy steps pursue : Let love, in acts of kindness done, Be witnessed by each rolling sun. Thus, he who marks, from day to day, In gen'rous acts his christian way; Treads the same path the Saviour trod, BAPTIZED into our Saviour's death, Our souls to sin must die; There, by his Father's side, he sits, Yet owns himself our brother still, We would from earthly trifles rise MESSIAH, Saviour, great High Priest, My Lord to me is still the same, CHRIST, like an uncorrupted seed, Immortal principles forbid The sons of God to sin. But with the noblest powers we have, We find access at every hour, Thence we derive a renewing power, Heaven is our home; O glorious state To dwell so near our Father's seat; IT is the Lord!-enthroned in light: To give, to take of mine. Hence, then, my anxious doubts and fears Yea, I may close my eyes in death, For death is life, the grave is rest, |
