His name shall be the Prince of Peace,
For evermore adored;

The Wonderful, the Counsellor,
The great and mighty Lord.

His power increasing, still shall spread;
His reign no end shall know:

Justice shall guard his throne above,
And peace abound below.

RIGHT and joyful was the morn,
When the promised child was born;
Lo! from highest realms of heaven,
Unto us a Son is given.

On his shoulder he shall bear
All the government, and wear
On his vesture and his thigh,
Names of awful majesty.
Wonderful in counsel, he;
Christ, th' incarnate Deity;
Sire of ages ne'er to cease;
King of kings, and Prince of Peace.

Lord, we worship at thy feet ;;-
Yield to thee the tribute meet;-
Pay to thee almighty Son!
Homage due to God alone.

HO is this that comes from Edom?
All

WHO

All his garments dipped in blood! To the bound proclaiming freedom; Bringing life, and peace with God.

Tis Messiah; mighty, glorious,
Strong to save, and kind to spare :
'Tis the sinner's Friend, victorious,
Come his spoils with us to share.
Singly he has trod the wine-press;
Singly, fought his people's foes;
'Twas Messiah's day of vengeance,
Winning rescue and repose.
Mighty victor! reign for ever;
Wear the crown so dearly won:
May we henceforth sing for ever,
We're redeemed by Christ alone.

HARK! the herald angels sing

"Glory to the new-born King;
"Peace on earth, and mercy mild;
"God and sinners reconciled."

Christ, by highest heaven adored;
Christ, the everlasting Lord;
Late in time behold him come;
Offspring of a virgin's womb.

Veiled in flesh, the Godhead see!
Hail, th' incarnate Deity!

Pleased, as man with men t' appear

Jesus, our Immanuel, here.

Hail, the heaven-born Prince of Peace!

Hail, the Sun of Righteousness!

Light and life to all he brings;
Ris'n with healing in his wings.

Mild he lays his glory by;
Born, that men no more may die;
Born, to raise the sons of earth;
Born, to give us second birth.

EHOLD God's word performed!
The blessing, promised long;

Angels announce the Saviour born,
And heaven resounds their song.
In glorying so divine,

We too the Saviour greet;
With hosts celestial gladly join,
And loud their theme repeat.
"Glory to God on high,
And heavenly peace on earth;
Good-will to men; to angels joy,
At our Redeemer's birth."

"E sing of Jesus' birth :

W

To us a Son is given :

To us a child is born on earth,

Who owns both earth and heaven!

He who was born to die

The universe sustains:

Once deep depressed; now Lord on high
The king Messiah, reigns.

Th' Almighty Lord, is he;
Author of heavenly bliss;

The Father of Eternity;

The glorious Prince of Peace.

His government shall grow; From strength to strength proceed; His righteousness, the Church o'erflow, And all the earth o'erspread.

EHOLD the King, expected long, In humble state at length appears; Amidst yon praising infant throng, His meek majestic head he rears. "Hosanna!"-thronging myriads shout,"Jehovah brings salvation nigh :" Hosanna!"-every babe cries out,"Jehovah send prosperity!"

To him who in Jehovah's name
Draws night to save, all praise belongs;
The Son of David be our theme,
And his salvation fill our songs.

55. THE true Messiah now appears, The types are all withdrawn ;

TH

So fly the shadows and the stars,
Before the rising dawn.

No smoking sweets, nor bleeding lambs,
No kids nor bullocks slain;
Incense and spice of costly name
Would now be burnt in vain.

Aaron must lay his robes away;
His mitre and his vest;

When Aaron's Lord comes down to be
The offering and the priest.

He took our flesh and blood to show
The fulness of his love;

For us he gave his life below;
For us he pleads above.

EHOLD the woman's promised seed!
Behold the great Messiah come!
Behold the prophets all agreed
To give this greater prophet room.
Abr'am, the saint, rejoiced of old
When visions of the Lord he saw :
Moses, the man of God foretold
This Great Fulfiller of the law.

The types bare witness to His name;
Obtained their grand design, and ceased,
The incense, and the bleeding lamb,
The ark, the altar, and the priest.
Predictions point to him alone,
And nobly are fulfilled in Him,
Jesus, we bow before thy throne,
Blessed with forgiveness through thy name.

CRUCIFIXION OF CHRIST.

C. M.

ARK was the night, and cold the ground,
When low the Lord was laid;

His sweat like drops of blood ran down,
In agony he prayed:
