XXXVII. How any of mankind come into the relation of children, of sons and daughters unto God, besides that of being created by God. John j. 12. To as many as received Christ, to them gave he power to be-come the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.
Ver. 13. Who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
John iii. 3. Jesus said, except a man be born again, he cannot en. ter into the kingdom of God.
Ver. 5. Except a man be born of water and of the spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. Tit. iii. 5, 6.
Ver. 6. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

XXXVIII. Blessings from God as a Father to his people, as his children.
Matt. vi. 6. Thy Father shall reward thee openly,

Ver. 14. Your heavenly Father will forgive your trespasses.
Ver. 31. Fear ye not, therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
* xiii. 43. The righteous shall shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father.
xvii. 14. It is not the will of your Father that one of these little ones should perish.
Luke xii. 32. Fear not little flock, it is your Father's good will to give you the kingdom,

XXXIX. Marks and characters of God's children in the exercise of the graces, and practice of the duties of religion. Mal. i. 6. If I be a Father, where is mine honour, saith the Lord of hosts.
Mat. v. 9. Blessed are the peace-makers, for they shall be called the children of God.
Ver. 16. Let your light so shine before men, that they seeing your good works, may glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Ver. 44. Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.

Phil. ji. 14. Do all things without murmurings, and disputings.
Ver. 15. That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world.
Heb. xii. 5. The exhortation speaketh unto you as unto children, my son despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, neither faint when thou art rebuked of him.
Ver. 6. For whom the Lord loveth, he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
Ver. 7. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons, for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not.
Ver. 8. If ye be without chastisement whereof all are partakers, then are'ye bastards and not sons.

XL. The wicked are stiled the children of whatever evil principle reigns in them, and so are called,
Children of the devil. John viii. 44. Acts xiii. 10. 1 John üi. 10.
Children of Belial. Deut. xiii. 13. Judg. xx, 13, 1 Sam. X. 27. I Kings xxi. 10.
Children of the wicked one. Matt. xiii. 38.
Cursed Children. 2 Pet. ii. 14.
sisters, and owe to each other the duties of that relation. Matt. xviii. 35. Forgive every one his brother's trespass. Rom. xii. 10. With brotherly love, preferring one another.
xiv. 13. Let no man put a stumbling-block, or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.
xyi. 17. I bescech ye, brethren, mark them which cause divisions, and offences, and avoid them.
1 Cor. v. 11. If any one that is called a brother, be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner, with such a one do not eat.
vi. 5. Is there not one among you able to judge between his brethren. Ver. 6, 8.
\ 1 Cor. viii. 12. When ye sin against the brethren, ye sin against Christ. Ver. 11, 13.
1 Thess. iv. 6. Let no man go beyond, and defraud his brother in any matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such.

2 Thess. iii. 6. We command you brethren in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that yc withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly.

Jam. ii. 15. If a brother or sister be naked and destitute of daily food ;
Ver. 16. And one of you say unto them, depart in peace, be ye warmed, and filled, notwithstanding ye gave them not those things which are needful to the body, what doth it profit?
I Pet. i. 22. Seeing ye have purified your souls, in obeying the truth through the Spirit, unto the unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart, fervently.
ii. 17. Love the brotherhood.
1 John ii. 9. He that hateth his brother is in darkness. Ch. ii. 156 He is a murderer.
| John iii. 15. We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren.
Ver. 16. We ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
XLII. Christ is the elder brother. John xx. 17. Jesus said, go unto my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father, to my God and your God.
Rom. viii. 29. Whom he did foreknow, he did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the first-born among many brcthren.
Heb. i. 11. He is not ashamed to call them brethren.
SALVATION. XLIII. God is a Saviour. 2 Sam. xxii. 3. The God of my rock, iny Saviour.
Ps. cvi. 21. They forgot God their Saviour.
Isa. xliii. 3. I am the Lord thy God, the holy one of Israel, thy Saviour. Isa. lx. 16.
xlix. 26. I will feed them, that oppress thee, with their own flesh, and they shall be drunken with their own blood, and all flesh shall know that I the Lord am thy Saviour, and thy Redeemer, the mighty one of Jacob. Zech. xiv. 12.
Jer. xiv. 8. O the hope of Israel, the saviour thereof, in time of trouble, why shouldst thou be a stranger in the land ?
Hos. xiii. 4. There is no Saviour besides me, saith the Lord. Isa. xliii. 11.-xlv. 21.
Luke i. 47. My spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
I Tim. ii. 3, 4. God our Saviour, who will have all men to be sayed, and come to the knowledge of the truth.
