miffioned to attend on thine aftonished difciples, and to comfort them with the affurance of thy return. Arrayed in robes of light and joy, they came to testify, that thy task was done, thy victory accomplished, and the crown placed upon thy head. And fhall not our transports equal thofe of thine angels, when with the eye of faith we fee thee thus afcended? It is for us, O Saviour, that thou art gone to prepare a place in those blissful. abodes-it is for us that thou makest thine all-powerful interceffion. While thou wert on earth, thou didst pray to thy Father, that they whom he had given thee might behold thy majefty-whither thou art gone, though we cannot follow thee now, yet we fhall follow thee afterwards. In the affured hope of future bleffedness, we are filled with joy unfpeakable, and full of glory. This is our GOD-we have waited for him, and he will fave us. This is the LORD-We

have waited for him-we will be glad and rejoice in his falvation.

"YE men of Galilee, why ftand ye "gazing up into Heaven?" O ye blessed fpirits, what eye could but be intent on the path whereby the Son of God was afcended to his throne? How could they do otherwife than fix their admiring looks on that cloud which had received their Master out of their fight? Never could they have gazed fo eagerly as now. "difciples, as fo departed that ye fhall "fee him no more. If he be gone, he " is not loft. Those heavens which have "received him fhall reftore him. Ye "have seen him afcend on the chariot " of a bright cloud-and in the clouds "of heaven ye fhall fee him defcend at "the last day to judge the world. He " is gone-rejoice that ye have an Ad"vocate in heaven. If it be forrow to -CC part with him, it is comfort and feli"city to meditate on the place whither " he is gone. If his abfence be grievous, his return fhall be happy and "glorious."

EVEN fo, LORD JESUS, come quickly! In the mean time, neither can heaven separate thee from thy children, nor can earth detain them from thee-raise up their fouls to a life of faith with theelet them ever enjoy thy conversation, while they expect thy return.
