TRINITY SUNDAY.

MORNING PRAYER.

All standing, the head of the family (or the priest or deacon, if present) says:

. O Lord, open Thou our lips.

Ry. And our mouth shall shew forth Thy praise.

. O God, make speed to save us.

R. O Lord, make haste to help us.

. Glory be to the Father, &c.

Ry. As it was, &c.

Then he says the following hymn of praise:

. Blessed for ever be Thy name, eternal Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, for Thy infinite power and love in creating us and all the world.

Ry. Our souls do magnify Thee, O Lord.

. Blessed be Thou, O Jesus, Son of God, our Saviour, for Thy infinite glory in itself, and Thy infinite love to us in redeeming us and all mankind.

Ry. Our souls do magnify Thee, O Lord.

. Blessed be Thou, O God the Holy Ghost, who proceedeth from the Father and the Son, for comforting us in all our troubles, and infusing the grace and love of God into our hearts.

Ry. Our souls do magnify Thee, O Lord.

. And blessed be Thou, O God, for preserving us from so many dangers of body and soul, and for all the temporal and spiritual blessings Thou affordest us.

Ry. Our souls do magnify Thee, O Lord.

. Be Thou exalted, O God, above the clouds, and Thy glory above the heavens.

Ry. While we live we will sanctify Thy name, we will sing praises to our God while we have our being.

. Glory be to the Father, &c.

Ry. As it was, &c.

Then he says the following Psalm:

PART OF PSALM 139, v. 1.

LORD, Thou hast searched me out, and known me : Thou knowest my down-sitting, and mine up-rising; Thou understandest my thoughts long before.

Thou art about my path, and about my bed and spiest out all my ways.

For lo, there is not a word in my tongue but Thou, O Lord, knowest it altogether.

Thou hast fashioned me behind and before and laid Thine hand upon me.

Such knowledge is too wonderful and excellent for me: I cannot attain unto it.

Whither shall I go then from Thy Spirit or whither shall I go then from Thy presence?

:

lead me and Thy right hand shall hold me.

If I say, Peradventure the darkness shall cover me: then shall my night be turned to day.

Yea, the darkness is no darkness with Thee, but the night is as clear as the day: the darkness and light to Thee are both alike.

For my reins are Thine: Thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.

I will give thanks unto Thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are Thy works, and that my soul knoweth right well.

How dear are Thy counsels unto me, O God: O how great is the sum of them!

If I tell them, they are more in number than the sand when I If I climb up into heaven, Thou wake up, I am present with Thee. art there : if I go down to hell, Try me, O God, and seek the Thou art there also. ground of my heart: prove me, and If I take the wings of the morn-examine my thoughts. ing and remain in the uttermost parts of the sea;

Look well if there be any way of wickedness in me and lead me in

Even there also shall Thy hand | the way everlasting.

AY the reading of the Holy Word (or Holy Gospel) be unto us salvation and protection. Amen.

Then he reads the short chapter following:

From the Book of the Prophet

Isaiah.
SAW the Lord sitting upon a
throne, high and lifted up, and

His train filled the temple. Above it stood the seraphim: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, with twain he covered his

feet, and with twain he did fly. And | All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth. Go ye, therefore, and teach all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you and lo, I am with

Or this:

From the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew.

AND Jesus came and spake you alway, even unto the end of

unto His disciples, saying, the world. Amen.

Then he says,

. Let us bless the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Ry. Thanks be to Thee, O God, for Thy great mercy. . But Thou, O God, have mercy upon us.

Ry. And forgive us our sins.

Then all kneeling, say the following Litany and Confession: GOD the Father, eternal Fountain of all being;

Thou who didst so love the world as to give Thy only Son to redeem it;

Thou who hast prepared for us a glorious inheritance if we love Thee and keep Thy commandments,

Have mercy on us.

O God the Son, eternal Word of the Father;

Thou who, to save us sinners, tookest upon Thee the frail nature of man, and becamest obedient unto the death of the cross;

Thou who at the last and dreadful day wilt come with glory to judge the living and the dead,

Have mercy on us.

O God the Holy Ghost, proceeding from the Father and the Son;

Thou by whom wast wrought the glorious mystery of our Saviour's incarnation;

Thou who art the free Dispenser of all graces and spiritual consolations,

Have mercy on us.

O sacred Trinity, three Persons and one God, of equal glory and co-eternal majesty ;

O sacred Trinity, from whom, by whom, and in whom are all things;

St. Matt. xxviii. 18.

M

O sacred Trinity, to whom all the angels and saints of heaven continually sing, Holy, holy, holy,

Have mercy on us.

Look down, O Lord, with compassion upon us miserable sinners, who confess and bewail the innumerable sins we have most grievously committed against Thee, by thought, word, and deed. Remember not, O Lord, our offences, but Thy infinite mercy; and give us a true contrition for them all, that being turned from every evil way, we may by a sincere repentance obtain Thy peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

From all evil, from all sin, from all abuse of this sacred day, and of those places which are sacred to Thee, from whatever is an offence to Thee or a scandal to the weak,

O Lord, deliver us.

From contempt of Thy worship, and all kinds of irreverence in Thy holy presence; from sloth, coldness, and levity in time of prayer; from the neglect of prayer and of Thy sacred word, O Lord, deliver us.

O Lord, we beseech Thee to hear us, and grant us Thy assistance, that we may sanctify this holy and happy day according to Thy commandments. Grant that, while we serve Thee with outward decency, we may be likewise careful to adore Thee in spirit and truth; that we may unite with the blessed above, in praising, adoring, and praying to Thee, and prepare our souls to celebrate with them an eternal Sabbath;

We beseech Thee to hear us, O Lord.

Grant that we may this day labour to rise to a new life, examining the state of our souls, and resolving to amend whatever is displeasing to Thee;

We beseech Thee to hear us, O Lord.

Grant that we may do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with Thee; denying our wills, ruling our tongues, softening our tempers, mortifying our lusts; and learn patience, meekness, purity, forgiveness of injuries, and continuance in well-doing; We beseech Thee to hear us, O Lord.

Grant that we may not give this day to earth which is consecrated to heaven; but employ it in such exercises as may raise our hearts above earthly things, and unite them to Thee by love, who art the only sovereign and everlasting good;

We beseech Thee to hear us, O Lord.

O Lord, graciously vouchsafe to hear us, and grant us these our petitions.

O Son of God, Redeemer of mankind, spare us, we beseech Thee, and have mercy upon us.

Here may be said the Prayer which is to be used when there is Holy Communion (see Sunday Morning Prayers, page 11); and if Trinity Sunday should happen to fall on the Feast of St. Barnabas, he here says the special Collect for that festival (see Saint's-Day Morning Prayers).

Then he says the following Prayer and Collect for Trinity Sunday:

ALMIGHTY and ever-living God, whose divine perfections

and adorable mysteriousness we this day commemorate; graciously accept the humble tribute of praise and thanksgiving which we, Thine unworthy servants, have presumed to offer unto Thee. And mercifully grant that the frequent meditation of Thy infinite goodness may force our wills to love Thee above all things; and the serious consideration of Thy incomprehensible majesty captivate our understanding to the obedience of faith, that we may here, in reverence to Thy word, believe what we do not see, and hereafter in the blissful vision of Thy glory see more than we now believe; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

ALMIGHTY and eternal God, who hast granted us Thy servants, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of Thy majesty to worship the Unity; we beseech Thee that, by firmness in the same faith, we may be ever protected from all adversities; who livest and reignest ever one God, world without end. Amen.

Then he says the two Collects and Prayer for a blessing, as in Sunday or Week-Day Morning Prayers (see pages 12, 50, 90).
