'and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, 'nations, and languages, should serve him, 'his dominion is an everlasting domi'niori, &c.

It seems probable, that, though the chief feat of this kingdom shall [be filled by the Messiah himself at Jerusalem, rebuilt by the new name of 'Hd» nw the Lord is there,' Ezek. chap, last, ver. last, under whom 'out of Zion shall go forth the 'law, and the word of the Lord from 'Jerusalem,' Micah iv. 2. yet the rest of the kingdom shall be portioned out by him among the saints of the Most High, who shall reign in subordination to the Messiah, over their respective apportionments: Forin thei8th verse of the said chapter of Daniel it is predicted, that 'the saints of the Most High shall take * the kingdom and possess the kingdom for 'ever.' See also the 226. and 27th verses of the same chapter of Daniel.

Now Now this Son of Man, to whom this universal and everlasting kingdom is to be committed, is the same with 'the most holy,' mentioned in the 24th verse of the 9th chapter os Daniel, where it is, said, that • seventy weeks' of years, or a period of 490 years, * are determined upon thy 'people,' ecc. 'to anoint the most holy,' who in the following verse, is stiled 'the 'Messiah, the prince.' From the going forth ,of the commandment,' by Cyrus, king of Persia, 'to restore and to build Je'rusalem,' after the Babylonish captivity, 'unto the Messiah the prince, shall be se

* ven weeks' of years, 'and threescore and

* two weeks' of years. Of him it is predicted, in the next verse, * shall Messiah be

* cut off,'as he was by your mistaken ancestors, who delivered him into the hands of the Romans to be crucified. Hence, my Jewisli friends, you plainly fee, that the crucified Jesus Ben-Joseph of the Christians, was your Messiah, the future king of Israel when converted to a faith in him; when Hosea iii. 5. 'the children of Israel shall

return * return, and seek the Lord their God, and 'David their king,' Jesus the Messiah, 'and 'shall fear the Lord their God and his 'goodness, in the latter days/ His birth at Bethlehem recorded by the evangelist: Luke is foretold in Micah v. 2. 'Out of 'thee, Bethlehem Euphratah, (hall he

* come forth unto me, that is to be ruler 'in Israel.' And, verse 4. 'he shall stand

* and feed,' of rule, * in the strength of the. 'Lord, in the majesty of the name of the 'Lord his God, and they,' Israel, * shall 'abide; for now shall he be great unto the

* ends of the earth; and this man shall be

* the peace,' &c. This is he, of whom it is thus prophesied by Haggai ii. 7. 'the 'desire of all nations shall come, and I will

* fill this house,' the second temple ' with' 'glory,' with the glory of the presence of the desire of all nations, the prince of peace, fpre-signisied by the prophet Zechariah, as I have repeatedly observed, under the title of 'the man, whose name is

* the branch, and my servant the branch, the great branch of David, 'the rod from

M • the 'the stem of Jesse, the branch out of

* his roots,' according to Isaiah. f He shall 'build,' Zech. vi. 12, &c. 'the temple

* of the Lord, and he shall bear the glory,

* and mail sit and rule upon his throne, and

* he shall be a priest upon his throne.'

The next prophetical passage, which plainly relates to the Messiah, is contained in Zech. ix. 9. 'Rejoice, greatly, O

* daughter of Zion, shout O daughter of 'Jerusalem, behold thy king cometh un'to thee: he is just and having salvation, 'lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon 'a colt the foal of an ass.' Now this prophecy was fulfilled, when Jesus rode on an ase into Jerusalem, as related by Luke in his 19th chapter.

In Zech. xi. 12. 'And I said unto them, 'if ye think good, give me my price; 'and if not forbear; so they weighed for 'my price thirty pieces of silver,' Jehovah speaks in his own name, as though your mistaken ancestors sold him for thirty pieces of silver. But the meaning evidently is, that, as they bartered Jesus, the Messiah, to Judas, according to Matthew's Gospel, for that sum of money, God regarded their selling Christ his messenger, as selling God who sent him. With this price, as the fame evangelist relates, they purchased 'the 'potter's field,' an event, which verified the prediction contained in the following verse of Zechariah, 'and the Lord said unto me,

* cast it unto the potter, a goodly price, 'that I was prized at of them: And I took

* the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them

* to the potter in the house of the Lord.'

The same prophet assures us the time, will come, when Zech. xii. 10, 'they,' the converted Jews, 'mall look upon me/ my Messiah, at his second coming, ' whom

* they,' your unbelieving ancestors, * have

* pierced % and 'they shall mourn for him,

* as one mourneth for his only son, and

* shall be in bitterness for him, as one

* that is in bitterness for his first-born :*

* In that day shall there be a great mourn'irfg in Jerusalem/ &c. The part of the

M z prophecy.
