A Thanksgiving.

Gracious Lord, whofe mercies endure for ever, I thy unworthy fervant, who have so deeply tafted of them, defire to render thee the tribute of my humblest praises for them. In thee, O Lord, I live, and move, and have my being: Thou first madeft me to be, and then, that I might not be miferable, but happy, thou fenteft thy Son out of thy bofom to redeem me, from the from the power of my fins by his grace, and from the punishment of them by his blood, and by both to bring me to his glory. Thou haft by thy mercy caused me to be born within thy peculiar fold, the christian church, where I was early confecrated to thee in baptifm, and have been partaker of all thofe fpiritual helps, which might aid me to perform that vow I there

made

made to thee; and when, by my own wil fulness or negligence, I have failed to do it, yet thou in thy manifold mercies haft not forfaken me, but haft graciously invited me to repentance; afforded me all means both outward and inward for it, and with much patience haft attended, and not cut me off, in the acts of those many damning fins I have committed, as I have most juftly deferved. It is, O Lord, thy reftraining grace alone, by which I have been kept back from any the greatest sins, and it is thy inciting and affifting grace alone, by which I have been enabled to do any the least good; therefore, not unto me, not unto me, but unto thy name be the praife. For thefe and other thy fpiritual bleffings, my foul doth magnity the Lord, and all that is within me praise his holy name. I likewise praise thee for those many outward bleffings I enjoy, as health, friends, food and raiment, the comforts, as well as the neceffaries of this life, for thofe continual protections of thy hand, by which I and mine are kept from dangers, and thofe gracious deliverances thou haft often afforded out of fuch aş have befallen me; and for that mercy of

thine, whereby thou haft sweetned and allayed thofe troubles, thou haft not seen fit wholly to remove; for thy particular prefervation of me this night, and all other thy goodness towards me. Lord, grant that I may render thee not only the fruit of my lips, but the obedience of my life, that fo these bleffings here may be an earneft of those richer bleffings, thou haft prepared for those that love thee; and that for his fake, whom thou haft made the author of eternal falvation to all that obey him, even Jefus Chrift our Lord. Amen.

A conclufive Prayer.

Eceive, O merciful Creator this my morning facrifice, which I have offered up, and grant that it may be to the glory and honour of thy great name, and to the eternal falvation of my own foul.

Accept, O omnipotent Creator! my poor endeavours. Pardon, O merciful Redeemer, thou great exemplar and pure idea of all wisdom, all my defects and negligences. Give me, O Holy Ghoft! efficacious grace, to put in due practice my present purpofes and refolutions. Glory be to the Father

ther and to the Holy Ghoft; for the benefits of my creation, redemption, fanctification: As it was in the beginning, when the morning stars praised thee, is now, in the church-militant, and shall be world without end, in the church-triumphant. Amen.
