Pfal. cvi. 21, 22, 23. Well the Holy GHOST fays they were his Works, MY WORKS; therefore he is that GoD they provoked in the Wilderness, and did thole mighty Works there.

Forty Years long was I grieved with this Generation, &c. Who faid this but GOD? and yet this was the Holy GHOST that faid it, and they have not known my Ways; whofe Ways can this be but GOD's Ways? And yet it is the Holy GHOST that fpeaks it, they were his Ways, M Ways; Verfe 11. Unto whom I feare in my Wrath, that they fhould not enter into my Reft: Who was this that fware in his Wrath? certainly it was GOD, GOD the Holy GHOST, for he fpake it, and whofe Reft was this? GOD's; and therefore GOD the Holy GHOST, for he calls it his Reft, I think no Body could imagin that reads from the 7th Verfe to the End of this Pfalm, but that it's GOD that fpeaks there, and if they would read the Hiftory in Excdus, they may plainly fee it was GOD that wrought thofe Works, c. and the Apostle affirms it Heb. iii. that it was the Holy GHOST, and who then can deny that he is GOD.

I think if there were no other Text in all the Scriptures to prove the Divinity of the Holy GHOST, thefe two Places compared together, are fufficient to an unprejudic'd Mind: But there are feveral other Texts of Scripture which are urged for the Divinity of the Holy GHOST, which I fhall leave to the Confideration of others, whether they prove the Point.

The Formation of our Bodies, being afcribed to the Holy GHOST, may hold forth his Divinity; Job xxxiii. 4. The Spirit of God hath made me, and the Breath of the Almighty bath given me Life. Matth. i. 18. 20. there we fee the Formation of

the

the Body of CHRIST in the Womb of the Virgin is afcribed to him; Verte 18. She was found with Child of the Holy Ghost; and Verte 20. For that which is conceived in her, is of the Holy Ghost. Job xxvi. 13. By his Spirit he hath garnished the Heavens; and Gen. i. 2. The Spirit of God moved upon the Face of the Waters.

Now I leave it to Confideration, whether those Texts prove his making the World, and thofe before, the making of our Bodies, and the Eody of CHRIST in the Womb; and if fo, none can do thefe Things but GOD. But there's a Text in Acts iv. 24, 25. plainly proves the Holy GHOST to be GOD the Maker of all Things, Verfe 24. They lift up their Voice to God with one accord, and frid, Lord thou art God which made Heaven and Earth, the Sea, and all that in them is: And who is this Lord GOD that made Heaven and Earth, &c. the 25th Verfe tells us, it was he that spoke by the Mouth of his Servant David; and it was the Holy GHOST that fpake by the Mouth of David, as I have before proved.

Matth. xii. 31, 32. Wherefore I say unto you, all Sin and Blafphemy, shall be forgiven unto Men, but the Blafphemy againft the Holy GHOST fhall not be forgiven unto Men; Verfe 32. Whosoever Speaketh a Word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but befoever Speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it Shall not be forgiven him, reither in this World, nor in the World to come. Now here's a Sin against the Holy GHOST which cannot be forgiven; and we do not read of an unpardonable Sin againft Father or Son, (that I know of:) But here's a Sin against the Holy GHOST that is unpardonable: fare then he must be a Perfon of infinite Dignity and Glory.

And lastly, he is one Being, one GOD with the FATHER and SON, 1 John v. 7. For there are three that bear Record in Heaven, the Father,

the Word, and the Holy Ghost, and thefe three are one: This is very plain, and as for the Objection against this Text of Scripture, I have fpoke to that before: And we are baptized in the Name of the Holy GHOST, as well as FATHER and SON, equally and alike, and by our Baptifm we are obliged to worship and ferve the Holy GHOST, as well as FATHER and SON. For what is it to be baptized in his Name, but to be devoted to his Worfhip and Service? And in the Benediction, 2 Cor. xiii. 14. we fee there's no Difference made betwixt him and the reft, but the Apostle bleffes in his Name as well as FATHER and SON The Grace of our Lord JESUS CHRIST, and. the Love of GOD, and the Communion of the Holy Ghoft be with you all, Amen.

And we fee he is adored by them, Acts iv, 24 25. LORD thou art GOD which made Heaven and Earth, &c. Who by the Mouth of thy Servant David faid, &c. It was the Holy GHOST that fpake by David; and as Dr. Callamy fays, feeing the Holy GHOST hath fuch Bleffings to beftow as he has, viz. Grace, Peace, Light, Life, Comfort, Conduct, Strength, . why muft he not be fought to, and pray'd to for thefe, as well as the FATHER and SON, for what they give?

Now feeing we are baptized in his Name and fo devoted to his Worship and Service, feeing he has Power to blefs us, feeing we are to adore him, and pray to him; feeing there's no Inferiority betwixt him and, the other Perfons in the Godhead; in Baptifm, nor the Benediction; and feeing he is a Perfon, as I have prov'd, &c. then it muft needs follow, that he must be One GoD with the F ATHER and SON, or else there must be three GoDs; for if he be, not one Being with the other there must be three, which is contrary to the

whole

whole current of Scripture, and therefore I conclude be is GOD.

P. S. And as for that Objection, viz. That we are no where commanded to worship him, or his Worship is not fpoken of in Scripture, &

Anfwer, I cannot fo boldly fay, that there is nothing of his Worfhip fpoke of in Scripture, being baptized into his Name, is being dedicated to his Worship and Service; and they adored him, Acts iv. 24, 25. &c. as I faid before.

But however, if we prove him to be GOD, it. neceffarily follows, that he must be worship'd; who' can queftion that? The very Heathens, when they own'd any thing as their GOD, they worship'd it in fome Way or other.. And feeing he has fuch Bleffings to beltow, he ought to be pray'd to for

them.
