British Quarterly Review-"The real value of this book is much greater than might be supposed from its unpretending title and appearance. It is, in fact, a careful and elaborate though brief compendium of all that modern research has done for the illustration of the Old Testament. We know of no work which contains so much important information in so small a compass. It will serve as a most useful help to parents or Sunday school teachers.'

Educational Times-"A work which for fulness and accuracy of information may be confidently recommended to teachers as one of the best text-books of Scripture History which can be put into a pupil's hands. Four clearly drawn maps add much to the value of the book. A very complete index at the end has been so arranged as to form a concise dictionary of the persons and places mentioned in the course of the narrative."

Guardian-"Dr. Maclear has put together a well-arranged summary of the Scriptural story, with notes, chiefly geographical, derived from Stanley, Robinson, and other modern authors, to elucidate the sacred text. This class-book is not critical, nor does it enter upon the questions raised by the Colenso school in its free handling of the Scriptural narrative. For purposes of education, it is far better without them.'
