HYMN III.

I

Glory be to God on high, and in earth, &c.

LORY be to God on high,

G1

God whose glory fills the sky;
Peace on earth to man forgiv'n,
Man, the well-belov'd of heav'n,

2 Sov'reign Father, heav'nly King,
Thee we now prefume to fing,
Glad thy attributes confess,
Glorious all and numberlefs.

3 Hail, by all thy works ador'd;
Hail the everlafting Lord;

Thee with thankful hearts we prove,
Lord of power, and God of love!

4 Chrift our Lord and God we own;
Christ, the Father's only Son:
Lamb of God for finners flain,
Saviour of offending man.

5 Bow thy ear, in mercy bow,
Hear, the world's atonement thou:
Jefus, in thy name we pray,
Take, O take our fins away.

6 Pow'rful Advocate with God,
Juftify us by thy blood!

Bow thy car, in mercy bow,

Hear, the world's atonement thou.

[blocks in formation]

7 Hear, for thou, O Christ, alone,
With thy glorious Sire art one;
One the Holy Ghost with thee,
One fupreme, eternal Three.

HYMN IV.

I

Chrift's Meffage. Luke iv. 18, 19.

H

ARK the glad found! the Saviour comes!
The Saviour promis'd long!

Let ev'ry heart prepare a throne,
And ev'ry voice a fong.

2 On him the Spirit largely pour'd
Exerts its facred fire;

Wisdom and might and zeal and love,
His holy breaft intpire.

3 He comes the pris'ners to release,
In fatan's bondage held;

4

The gates of brass before him burst,
The iron fetters yield.

He comes from thickeft films of vice
To clear the mental ray,

And on the eye-balls of the blind
To pour celeftial day.

5 He comes the broken heart to bind,
The bleeding foul to cure;

And with treasures of his grace,
T'inrich the humble poor.

6 Our glad hofannas, Prince of peace,
Thy welcome fall proclaim:
And heav'n's eternal arches ring
With thy beloved name.

HYMN V.

Grateful Recellection.-Ebenezer. 1 Sam. vii. 12.

Co

NOME, thou Fount of ev'ry bleffing,
Tune my heart to fing thy grace!
Streams of mercy never ceafing,
Call for fongs of loudest praife:
Teach me fomè melodious fonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above;
Sacred mount I'm fixt upon it,
Mount of God's redeeming love!

2 Here I raise my Ebenezer,
Hither by thy help I'm come;
And I hope by thy good pleafure
Safely to arrive at home.
Jefus fought me when a ftranger,
Wand'ring from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interpos'd his precious blood!

3 O! to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm conftrain'd to be!
Let thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wand'ring heart to thee!
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it;

Prone to leave Thee whom I love→→
Here's my heart, O take and feal it;
Seal it, for thy courts above!

HYMN VI. 3

Matt. xxv. 6.

E virgin fouls arife,
With all the dead awake,

YE

Unto falvation wife,

Oil in your veffels take; Upftarting at the midnight cry, Behold the heav'nly bridegroom nigh.

He comes, He comes to call

The nations to his bar,

And raise to glory all

Who meet for glory are:

Made ready for your full reward,
Go forth with joy to meet your Lord.

3

Go meet him in the sky,

Your everlasting Friend,

Your head to glorify,

With all his faints afcend;

Ye pure in heart, obtain the grace
To fee without a veil his face.

4

Ye that have here receiv'd

The unction from above,

And in his fpirit liv'd

Obedient to his love,

Jefus fhall claim you for his Bride;
Rejoice with all the fanctified.

1 L°

[blocks in formation]

O he comes with clouds defcending,
Once for favour'd finners flain!

Thoufand

Thousand thousand faints attending
Swell the triumph of his train.
Hallelujah!

God appears on earth to reign.

2 Ev'ry eye fhall now behold him Rob'd in dreadful majesty;

3

Those who set at nought and fold him,
Pierc'd and nail'd him to the tree,
Deeply wailing

Shall the true Meffiah fee.

The dear tokens of his paffion,

Still his dazzling body bears;
Cause of endless exultation
To his ranfom'd worshippers:
With what rapture

Gaze we on those glorious scars.

4 Yea, Amen! let all adore thee
High on thy eternal throne!
Saviour, take the pow'r and glory,
Claim the kingdoms for thy own:
Jah! Jehovah !
Everlasting God come down.

HYMN VIII.

E comes, He comes, the Judge severe ! The feventh trumpet speaks him near; His lightnings flash, his thunders roll; How welcome to the faithful foul!

2 From heav'n angelic voices found,
See th' almighty Jefus crown'd!
Girt with omnipotence and grace,
And glory decks the Saviour's face!
