THE practical utility of this work is sufficiently obvious on the slightest inspection, and the merit and accuracy of its execution has been proved by abundant testimonies, and by the regular and never-failing sale of many thousand copies within every year since its first appearance.

Neither Labour nor Expence has been spared to render the present edition perfect and correct, and in all respects equal to any that have preceded it. The multiplicity of the objects which it embraces renders it impossible, however, to avoid some errors or omissions; corrections and suggestions, of every kind, are therefore earnestly solicited, and they should be addressed to the care of Mr. PHILLIPS, the publisher, at No. 6, Bridge-street, Blackfriars.

The great approbation bestowed on this work has induced the proprietor to print an enlarged and extended edition, under the title of MoDERN LONDON, in one elegant volume, quarto, illustrated with sixty beautiful copper-plates, at once the most splendid work in the English language, and worthy of the great City which it describes.
